Fight smart, not fair. It's an inherently goofy trope, and the picture should reflect that. Perhaps Ace the Bathound?

Yeah, that's a fair point. There is indeed a fair amount of "heroic trait inheritance" from Superman, but...
May I suggest another Rex cover? Hard to get much more heroic than rescuing a basket full of kitties from a fire

That is a good point: even if I have no idea who Krypto is, he has that Superman shield symbol thingie on his collar, instant hero. Also understand wanting the picture to be of a dog doing something heroic.

Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan.I like Krypto w/kittens. Wait, are we sure we want to use a dog with super powers?
Fight smart, not fair.Hmmm. Looks like Rex could be a goldmine of possibilities:
defending a boy from a jaguar
,
Rex lowering ''a kid'' from a burning building
Rex throwing a railroad switch
to save the same kid he had to defend from the jaguar...
Timmy in a Well is probably the closest thing, but it's about the animal doing the saving.
Planescape Hijack
I'm going to say it's Just Eat Gilligan.
I like the one Deboss just linked—the trope says it's usually relatively realistic, so I like showing a real life example.

Pretty well established that the dog is a good dog, but how does that make it a Heroic Dog? And what does Hugo Chavez threatening to cut off oil to the US have to do with any of this?
This is still a signature.
