I personally think that the Beatles deserve all the praise they get, unless the history of pop and rock would've turned out the same if they didn't exist.
I once thought that Nirvana was overrated, but apparently they brought alternative to the spotlight. Also, I'm biased against grunge anyways.
Nico is underrated. Her more experimental music was ahead of its time, and it was often harmonium-driven. I don't know many bands/artists that have the harmonium featured in their music, let alone have their sound revolve around it. Despite all this, the thing she's most famous for is collaborating with The Velvet Underground on their most famous album.
That's true, but I've had some particularly bad experiences with that fandom in particular. Bias I know, but still.
Also, the whole "COBAIN WAS GOD, LOLOLOL" thing gets reeeeeeeeeeally damn old after awhile.
I spread my wings and I learn how to fly....@Nikkolas: Which songs did you listen to? Sisters of Mercy has changed a lot over their career...they went from minimalist goth-rock to guitar driven metal over a precious few albums.
Granted, I've been a fan since high school. But which songs did you try, and what didn't you like about them?
If I were to write some of the strange things that come under my eyes they would not be believed. ~Cora M. Strayer~^^^ I really don't remember. I was just searching Google and found various forums talking about Gothic rock and some people provided youtube links to their songs.
And I'm not saying they're a bad band. I don't have the technical knowledge to criticize their skill as a band. I just know what I heard didn't "click" with me.
@Nikkolas: S'all good, if you didn't like them I'm not offended or anything. I just was curious because they're catalog has a lot of different stuff in it and if you heard only one part maybe another would appeal to you.
What "Goth" bands do you like?
If I were to write some of the strange things that come under my eyes they would not be believed. ~Cora M. Strayer~Well that was the thing. I'm new to "goth" music and was listening to the Sisters as a way to try and see if I liked the subgenre.
Right now I'm trying out Fields of the Nephilim who were recommended to me by the poster on the last page and various other people. I like them well enough.

Underrated: Joe goddamn Hisaishi. I'm both surprised and appalled he doesn't have a spot anywhere on Crowning Music Of Awesome, and his music barely gets noticed even by Anime fans. Just listen to THIS and honestly say he doesn't deserve a spot there:
I'll agree with the second half of the sentence, but not so much on the former. Korn was certainly darker, more twisted and uglier than many of their successors. Maybe not treading the same bloody depths as deathgrind and black metal, sure, but not in the relatively jolly leagues as Power Metal or (as a more apt comparison/contrast) Hair Metal, either..
Underrated: Budgie, Helmet and Killing Joke have never been acknowledged as being as influential as they really are, which is a shame.
Overrated: I can't name any individual bands, but I'm getting pretty sick of Rolling Stone and co's obsessive fapfests over everything released between the Summer of Love and Watergate. Yeah, we get it, the Age of Aquarius really meant something to you. Guess what? Shit's happened since then, so how about you throw Gen's X and Y a bone every now and then?
Seconding the predictability of 'Guitarist Award' contests.

Aww, did I hurt your widdle fee-fees?Agreed, even though I'm a huge fan of music from that era. Yes, it was good. No, it is not worthy of eternal worship to the exclusion of all else. In a few arenas the Age of Aquarius has been bested, or at least equaled.
Personal peeve: can we have a "Best Guitarist Ever" contest that Jimi Hendrix does not win?
If I were to write some of the strange things that come under my eyes they would not be believed. ~Cora M. Strayer~Korn's a really hit or miss band. Some songs are good. Others are completely unlistenable.
Overrated: A lot of examples really. 70s rock. Overrated. Grunge overrated. Aesop Rock. Everyone here keeps saying he's underrated, but you know what? He's only underrated because he's not pop rap nor a crossover relic from the Gangsta Rap years. I don't hear anyone, ever, writing him off as crap.
Underrated: Hard to say. Really depends on who you talk to. If you wanted to, you could claim that pop rap is underrated because a lot of people write it off as crap.

Underrated: The Legendary Pink Dots
Overrated: Nirvana, the Beatles
I suppose I have a bit of Hype Backlash regarding both Nirvana and the Beatles. I was in college in the 90s and Nirvana was being hyped everywhere as the Greatest Band that Ever Lived, but I never saw what was supposed to be so special about them.
