With the article being renamed, the image has become spectacularly bad. Even Holmes fan may not recognize him as Moriarty, and as brought up in the rename discussion, Moriarty's status as an example is debatable. I doubt this is picturable, but this image has gotta go.

Hmmm, I don't think this is something that is easily picturable because you have to point out that he wasn't intended as a villain in the first place before he got famous. The Joker comes to mind, but I don't think he's well known for that.

I'd say to go with no page image. Even a comparison shot of a villain in a minor role versus a major role wouldn't convey that the villain was never intended to reach that status.

Really? I agree with The Joker. In fact, The Joker is the first villain I think of when reading the title of this trope.

Yes, but everyone knows him as the Batman villain. Not many people will know the intricacies of his roots; whether he was a big-name villain or not. It'll just be a picture of a villain.

In this case, I can't think of a viable picture.

This French Troper I am didn't even know The Joker was a Breakout Villain. I know him (despite not being a comics fan, so yes, he's universally recognizable), but only as Batman's archvillain. So yeah, I don't think he can represent this trope.

Perhaps we could get an comic panel early on of the Joker going to jail and Batman commenting that he'll never see him again. Or something of that accord.
