Yeah I'm somewhat confused on Rita's assertion that Dexter hasn't been a very present husband or father lately.

I mean... the focus of this season so far has been about how stretched thin he is between family, his work and... his extra-curricular activities. And she doesn't even know about the latter.

Come on. In TV land, a shot to the gut is hardly fatal. At any rate, at least Debra will live to tell the tale. What with being main cast and MCH's wife and all....

I don't think we've seen a female Dexter victim get the "normal" Dexter treatment. That's a welcome change. although I do wonder if Dexter will find the urge to kill his family...

Oh yeah, I agree with you on Debra. Lundy looked like a goner though.

But seriously, this weekly Dexter kill was the best one I've seen in a long time. And I mean, since season 2 long. Season 3 was full of sloppy and questionable kills (I still think the one where he killed a guy in a cruise ship and dumped the remains out the porthole was pretty damn stupid).

Favorite line? Lady cop: "You're gonna rape and kill me, aren't you. Dexter: "What is it with you and rape? No one's going to rape anyone. Killing, on the other hand..."

I'm getting pretty sick of this Angel x La Guerta bullshit. Remember when they were cops in Miami Metro PD who worked closely with Dexter and not just random throw-in Hispanic lovers?

That's a good line.

Dexter is insanely good.

I had been spoiled on this episode's big reveal before the season started (I think an interview with Lithgow mentioned it). Still, Dexter is going to have to move carefully. I'm not sure if Trinity saw his car or not...

He got the Bay Harbor Butcher wrong and Trinity (partially) wrong. 0-2, Lundy. Or is it .5-2? Really calls "Special Agent Rockstar's" investigative abilities into question.

What the hell, season? At first I thought you would be the worst season so far, but then you decided to be the most amazing.

The scene with Quinn and the re-whore-ter. Sex padding, anyone?

It speaks well of a show when even characters I hate (Deb) can have their moments. Though I thought the scene in parking lot was a bit too much.

And I'm glad they finally dealt with the issue of Dexter's apartment. And that they reacted the way a normal person would react.

While I appreciate some T&A, I like it to actually fit into the story. Unless the guy who turned out to be going down on her turned out to be someone weird, like Angel, I just didn't see how it was relevant.

Though the reporter and the cute but annoying Internal Affairs chick from last season could have their own show where they make out for a half an hour and I wouldn't object.

Unfortunately, Quinn seems to be the patron saint of "interesting" storylines that go nowhere.

I suppose patience is in order, because I hated Deb's romances in seasons 2 and 3 though the payoff has been drastic.

There's been a (shaky) theory put out there that Quinn is the Vacation Murderer, which I think is more plausible now that it's been shown that the previous suspects were just a couple of crazy meth heads. We've had a season and a half building up Quinn as a dirty cop but like Doakes' murder of that one Ton Ton Macoute guy, it could be just a story that is at best tangential.

God, I hope you're right, Led Walrus. It would give me a reason to suffer through his storyline.

Gotta say, while I really like Deb as a character, her taste in men sucks. Lundy is a great guy, but the Electra Complex thing is just too acute for me to appreciate their chemistry. Anton is incredibly bland. Both relationships were pretty unprofessional of Deb to enter into, and I like to think better of Deb than that.

Well considering the first boyfriend we saw her with, at least she's taking steps away from "Not murderously insane"

Aside from that, Rudy was a pretty awesome boyfriend, though.

Good God, I hope this latest episode means that Angel x La Guerta is over.

Development 1! In yet another instance of "My serial killing penis is bigger than yours," it's shown that Trinity's success with his family life is that... surprise, surprise... he actually loves his family.

Development 2! The Trinity is symbolic. Arthur lost a sister, mother and father in that order. That explains his victim choice. That begs the question, though... if he didn't kill them, then who?

Development 3~! It looks like the show will set up a mistaken identity plot because (and I'm surprised they caught this) Debra noticed that Lundy's Trinity notes were missing. Dexter has 'em. And Deb what does Deb know about Harry?

Well done episode, even if it was filler.

And I have to say. I think Rita is the worse partner in this marriage. And that's saying a lot when the other is a serial killer...

I don't actually mind Angel/LaGuerta too much. They've always had a lot of chemestry. I did think that it was kinda dumb that they didn't go with one of the other offered plans (I particularly liked the idea of LaGuerta resigning to take a press liason job and Angel taking over Homicide) because it smacked too much of "We need to keep both of these core characters in the same department for the purposes of the show dynamic." I don't think that they're over; they just decided on the suicide plan because love makes people morons.

My Trinity wild mass guess: It's a whole family of serial killers. His new wife murdered his old wife and they lived happily ever after, raising murderous children. Until they met Dexter and he killed all of them.

I didn't catch anywhere that he had a previous wife that was killed.

Didn't he say something about losing a relationship before meeting his current wife to Dexter? I might be misremembering, but that is the sort of throwaway line that tends to come back later in this show.

If so, that could refer to losing his sister. Not all relationships have to be romantic. Remember that Dexter was a witness to a horrible murder before becoming a horrible murderer himself.

What a concept! The Re-whore-ter fully clothed!

I have mixed feelings about Quinn = New!Doakes. On the one hand, it all feels like a desperate bid to make up for Dexter not having an arch nemesis. On the other hand, I like that Quinn's antipathy for Dexter is growing based on what he sees, and not because Quinn just has a stick up his ass (although Quinn does have a stick up his ass).

Quinn showing up at the nightclub felt like a Contrived Coincidence, though.

I like the call back to season 1 with the deer.

So... I'm sure there's a point to Trinity building a coffin. Though I wonder how he explains this to his wife and kids.

Dexter really dropped the ball here. This is a bigger f-up than Oscar Prado.

I dunno, actually. There's a good chance that the photographer may have actually been in on it, which would exonerate Dexter and his perfect record.

Of course, I hope it doesn't turn out that way, because this is way more interesting. given how sloppy and impulsive he's been the past couple seasons, it was only a matter of time before he killed an innocent (if still skeezy) person. Honestly I was on the fence about the potential pediphile from last season that he killed, though I chalked it up to "you are sniffing around the kids of the nastiest Papa Wolf in existence; Darwin says, 'you die.'"

I just started watching the series again in a marathon with a person who had only seen the first three episodes. It's interesting to see when she figures various mysteries out, compared to when I did (she got the Ice Truck Killer about an episode later than I did).

Oh my. Trinity didn't kill Lundy? And whoever did is Masuka's height? Sounds like lying whoreporter might be a candidate for Dexter's table if she decided to start making her own news...

Whoreporter evidence: 1). Nobody else we have met on the show is as short as Masuka. 2). She is under pressure to get "leads that bleed" by the newspaper mgmt. 3). She has shifty, lie-telling, manipulative ways. Conclusion: Somebody get a rope!

wild mass guessYou know who else is as short as Masuka and could conceivably be obsessed with Deb to the point that where Deb and Lundy emerging from a hotel after a night of passion causes them to snap? Masuka. Who, as we know, owns a gun.

Eh... I don't think that's probable because his gun is almost certainly registered and they'd be able to trace it, and Masuka is a pervert, but he's never shown any signs that he's a dangerous pervert, or even that obsessed with Deb beyond the fact that she's his hot co-worker. It would also mean that Masuka would have to leave the show somehow, and that would be depressing.

But that is some fine-quality wild mass guess right there, to be sure.grin
