Do we really need an article about this? It is highly unlikely that anyone with the resources and abilities to actually make an MMORPG will ever read it, or that it will help them if they do.

Why not replace the article with a more in depth discussion of why making an MMORPG is so infeasible? I'd be willing to bet that >99% of the audience are people who just had TEH COOLEST IDEA EVER and have never made a game before in their lives. Wouldn't it be better to give them a reality check and redirect their efforts to something that they can actually succeed at?

There is a short disclaimer at the top, but I don't really think it goes into enough detail on why MMORPGS require so many resources.

[up][up]Who are we to say that people with the resources to make a MMORPG are never going to read the page? Last time I looked, this site was open to everyone, not just 15-25 year old male American Yuri Fanboys.

I haven't read the article myself, but it should make clear just how much resources and work are needed to make a MMORPG. If it doesn't, it's not an accurate guide and should be changed accordingly.

Besides, it's not THAT hard to make an MMO. There are plenty of indie flash game-makers who've put up an MMO, there are hobbyists using tilesets from RPG Maker and a lot of passion, there's...well, I run out of more examples that are more amateurish in nature.

Oh wait, Runescape!

I imagine MMORP Gs are just the complexities of RP Gs, the complexities of MM Os, and maybe one or two extra complications from tying them together. If MMORP Gs are a special case (which I doubt, since they're mostly stat-based and are slower paced than other types of MMO), then sure, I'm prepared to concede that they're incredibly difficult to make. It really depends on how good you want to make it. Just another genre of game.

By the way, here's a guide to MMO design I found. It seems to be much more in depth then the current article. Would it be possible to copy it over? What are TV Trope's policies on that sort of thing?

Our policy is that we don't just copy over articles from other sites. The "so you want to..." pages are supposed to be trope-focused — the foundation tropes, the common character tropes, the tropes that are not fundamental but work well together.

[up][up]Maybe you can link that article on the page (unless the article's author doesn't want people to link to their stuff, of course).
