God, this is unbelievably depressing.

I tried to keep my expectations low on Dan Donegan and Mike Wengren's new project, since they chose a singer as generic-sounding as Dan Chandler.
But I can't help but like it. The main riff and solo feel bittersweet, because as infectious as they are, I dearly wish both had been saved for a Disturbed song.

I don't like Alt-Metal in general, although Korn is admittedly one of my favourite bands of all time. Three Days Grace as well.
So here we have the opening single from Alter Bridge's new album. It's pretty energetic, though it really just makes me want to see them write an instrumental. I can't really dig Miles' voice on this particular song.
So, AB are streaming their new album.

I feel like they're starting to toe the line between alt-metal and straight metal. Those non-metal moments might be closer to post-grunge than alt-metal.

I just downloaded the two bonus tracks on iTunes for "Life by Design?" by Fight or Flight.
"Some Heads Are Gonna Roll" is weird. It sounds like an 80's guitar riff, as if Dan Donegan is going back to his Dokken/Ratt roots. At the same time, the production is exceedingly modern, and Dan Chandler's voice is still pretty much straight alternative hard rock. Altogether, it's an odd combination.
I kind of hope Disturbed covers "Dream Warriors" and "You Think You're Tough" by Dokken and Ratt some day. Those would suit David Draiman's voice.
"Sacrifice" is okay at best. It sounds like it could fit anywhere on the normal album without making much of a difference.
Joey Jordison has left Slipknot
.
It is with great pain but quiet respect, that for personal reasons Joey Jordison and Slipknot are parting ways. We all wish Joey the best in whatever his future holds. We understand that many of you will want to know how and why this has come to be, and we will do our best to respond to these questions in the near future. It is our love for all of you, as well as for the music we create, that spurs us to continue on and move forward with our plans for releasing new material in the next year. We hope that all of you will come to understand this, and we appreciate your continued support while we plan the next phase of the future of Slipknot.
Thank you, The 'Knot

I like a lot of Alt-Metal myself. My faves are:
- Soundgarden
- Alice In Chains
- Danzig
- Rollins Band
- tool (one of my two favorites on this list overall)
- A Perfect Circle
- Deftones
- Incubus
- Disturbed
- System Of A Down
- The Smashing Pumpkins
- Nine Inch Nails (tied with Tool for quite possibly my favorite on this list overall)
- Marilyn Manson (I'll probably get mocked for this one, but his first couple records were pretty sweet)
- Godflesh (Industrial Metal, so I'll count 'em, even if most don't)
- KMFDM (I'd say they count)
- Rammstein (once again, if they count)
- White Zombie/Rob Zombie
- Rage Against The Machine
- Faith No More
- Primus
- Janes Addiction
- Living Colour
- Red Hot Chili Peppers (a VERY borderline case, but still, I love 'em)
- Type O Negative (even if I generally think of them as Goth Metal rather than Alt-Metal)
- Evanescence (though, once again, I think of 'em more as Goth Metal. Also one people might mock me for, but whatever...)
Long list. Actually, not so much faves as "Alt-Metal bands I listen to reasonably often".

So, that's pretty insane. Hope everything works out for them.
Ouch. What a mess.
Still, sounds like they are making progress, slow as it is. Also, I like the hints he dropped. Sounds like it'll be a heavier record- when it finally comes out. Keep on fighting and such.... Take your time, guys.
tool are perfectionists, apparently. Doesn't surprise me in the least...

Adam Gontier leaves Three Days Grace

I just bought my sister Transit of Venus for Christmas. It's a sad day for post-grunge/alt-metal.
