Resident Evil 5, citing the controversy being too offensive to play.
And then theres the guy who didn't like Muramasa The Demon Blade for not having a dub.

"Every opinion that isn't mine is subjected to Your Mileage May Vary."Back in the day, Crusader of Centy (a Sega Genesis game that I'm sure nobody else here has even heard of because I'm the only old fogey here) got a lot of negative press for being "too much like The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past."
The catch?
1) If I may slightly-reword Yahtzee's strawman, "A Link to the Past was a good game and anything that's remotely like it should be just as good!"
2) It actually wasn't that similar outside of genre conventions.
It seriously came off (and still comes off) to me like people were looking for an excuse to put the game down without seriously considering its merits (not the least of which was that it had a truly epic plot for a Sega Genesis game — In fact, it delved into themes that are still pretty unique for a video game and as such, is worth checking out)
Not to mention each and every fucking time I hear "bad graphics" as an excuse. People who judge games by their graphics don't deserve to play games, seriously.

The Kagami topic has now reached 201 posts! (Nov 5)Disliking older games for not having voice acting.
...Really?
"Proto-Indo-European makes the damnedest words related. It's great. It's the Kevin Bacon of etymology." ~MadrugadaFrom me, for not liking games despite them being said to be great, all the damn time:
"It's Japanese."
I am a proud member of the Western Federation's Anti-Japan Media Task Force. My work is very important. There was that review of Fire Emblem 10 that took off points because the game didn't use motion controls or Miis.
Torment liveblog is still hiatusing. You can vandalize my contributor page if you want something to do.I remember that review. I'd call it a Wall Banger, but walls everywhere deserve more dignity than that.
"It ain't about whether you win or lose, unless you got money on the game, because...damn. That's your money, son."Re: Metroid Prime - 'It's on the Gamecube, therefore it must be kiddy, therefore it must suck.'
Also any and all whining that a game clearly focused on a single player experience has a lackluster or, heaven forbid, lack of multiplayer. Nothing against multi, it's just that I usually play single, and it's grating that my preferred method of gaming is apparently scandelous.
Nthing bashing older games for being products of the times. Yeah, okay, maybe I'm personally too spoiled by modern games to be able to have much fun with, say, the original Metroid or The Legend Of Zelda, but they're still damn important games.

Eh, I can see how people miss them. It's nice to be able to figure out how much health you've got and how many hits from X or Y you can take easier.

RE: post 2.
He also said the quality was "on par with a Flash game." No justification.
I think it's because he's just bought Reach on the midnight release for more or less £50, and won't accept there is a decent Arcade game that costs about £17 (and change in MS points) that is as good if not better.

Well, "Bah!" to your friend, I say!
Plus, there's definitely some reasonably competent flash games out there.

^ If the game isn't about it, it can be a turn-off to be fair. Even if the game is pretty good otherwise.
- The graphics aren't in high definition.
A friend of mine refuses to play Shadow Hearts because, and I quote, "I don't want to play any game with a main character that much like me."
Apparently identifying with characters is a bad thing now. :P
But somehow,◊The thing about multiplayer complaints always kills me. I remember people whining about Doom 3 because it had poor multiplayer. Now, there's plenty of legitimate reasons that I can see to dislike Doom 3, but poor multiplayer isn't really one of them. Outside of the fact that it's clearly single player focused, I resent the whole notion that a game (especially if it's a FPS) must have a deep multiplayer aspect, or even multiplayer at all.
Speaking of that, I remember reading a post somewhere on the Steam forums, where someone was complaining about how they didn't understand why anyone would be excited about Doom 4 or Rage, because according to them, Id Software has never made any good games. Then started into a rant about how "simplistic" Wolfenstein, Doom, and Quake were, and how "crude" the graphics were. You know, because god forbid something be made in the early-mid 90s, before all the fancy graphics and genre conventions set in.
Graphics complaints always bug me too. People bemoaning that a game doesn't use the highest graphical quality imaginable. I really hate graphics snobs. What it boils down to, is that good gameplay or story can easily make up for poor graphics, but good graphics absolutely cannot make a bad game good. I've seen plenty of complaining about how some game doesn't support some ridiculously high resolution, or doesn't have wide screen support, or stuff about bump mapping or anti-aliasing... I'll be honest with you, when I go into the video/graphics section of a game's menu, I don't know what half of that shit does, and it's never affected the quality of my enjoyment of a game.
Occasionally you'll see people bitching about casual games, claiming that they damage the industry by diverting business away from "mainstream" games. Nevermind that they tend to be completely different demographics, but if other people want to play Peggle or something, how's that any of their damn concern?
I think the silliest one was when Team Fortress 2 came out, all the elitist Countstrike players got into a tiff because Valve had ironed out some bugs that had been present in their engines for years. As a number of them put it, the game didn't allow for "advanced movement", which basically means they couldn't do all that bunnyhopping bullshit. They complained about other stuff, but it all boiled down to that fact that they couldn't use exploits in the game engine to allow them to completely dominate people that didn't know about or use such things. How dare those people who don't play the game for eight hours a day be able to score a kill know and then based on their ability to actually play a FPS.

One that sets me off a lot is complaining that the graphics aren't flashy/detailed/'uber' enough. My little sister's a 'huge graphics snob, who simply cannot fathom why I love series like Disgaea, and apparently could not see any difference between the original graphics and what we see in the Disgaea 4 trailer.
Oh, and she has a PSP, but refuses to even try renting any games for it "because they're PSP games". The sole exception? Dissidia. Which she bought just because it was Final Fantasy, a series she only got into with VIII because — guess what? — the graphics on all the others weren't good enough. (She skipped IX for the same reason.) *
I definitely hate the BGSV excuse
BGSV = Blood Gore Sex Violence
,which pretty much means if a game doesn't have it, it obviously must suck!
That's not true in any possible way :/
Graphic whores are pretty much the worst. My brother even says that every game not on the PS 3 has shit graphics (Which he deduced by watching a Birth By Sleep trailer >.>)
Another complaint I've heard for RPG's is that 'it's boring'. Not much of an excuse when everyone who says that to me literally plays less than five minutes. Sometimes not even bothering to reach a battle.
^ Although the boring part can be justified for those who prefer quicker action in slower turn-based systems, or if they're playing Quest 64.
Quest 64 threadMorgan Web said at 2010 E3 that 3DS games could not be good based solely on them being on a Nintendo system.
That crossed the line from opinion (such as Spoony said the games merely didn't impress him there) to prejudice.

I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid.

Lamest for not liking was a friend of mine claiming Monday Night Combat didn't feel polished, citing the lack of vibration.
Lamest excuse for liking one came from me, on Halo: Reach. "It's much more fun than a Halo game."
Curse the ill fortune that led you to me.
