[up] No, it's the onomotopeia for sparkling + the sound a mouse makes. An English variant for Pikachu would be something like "sparksqueak".

Pachirisu's name was left unchanged because everything else about him is a rip on Pikachu.

As for the tone of the Daienki comic: so you think it should've been Smugleaf instead? cool

The reason Pikachu was unchanged is because the Pika part is a pun on the pika. I'm not psychic but that's my guess.

So that's not where they were going. I have no clue then. It's kind of like a version of Ace Attorney which called Phoenix Ryuichi Naruhodo with the rest of the cast having Americanized names.

Pikachu probably stayed the same because it's still perfectly and easily pronouncable, and he is the mascot. They want him recognizable the world over!

If the Wotter line ended with Futachimaru, I would be happy. Alas, it does not.

C'moooon Smugleaf!

Baibanira really needs to be named "Bivanilla".

He's got some nice moves. Freaking Acid Armor for one, not to mention the new Body Purge move.

Plus, he's got Ice Body, which meshes well with his Blizzard attack.

I'm thinking a Bivanilla with Acid Armor, Body Purge, Blizzard, and Leftovers in Hail could do pretty well.

Dunno about the last move. Protect? A type coverage move? Explosion? Because he has Explosion.

What about Hail? Or would you have an Abomasnow for that?

Yeah, I'm thinking an Abomasnow. I figure that weather-creating Abilities are the way to go, especially with the advent of Drought!Ninetails and Drizzle!Politoed. That way the team doesn't have to worry about maintaining the effect.

Was the rumor about Hail boosting the Special Defense of Ice-types true? If so, that gives Baivanilla some nice potential if he then uses Acid Armor to boost his Defense.

That's just thinking, though. In reality, I have no idea how to run a Hail team.

For one thing, I think that running a team based around a weather that only benefits Ice types is begging for a Fire or Fighting type to wreck everything.

Hm. Looking at some of the other Ice types, I see some potential in Furijio (the snowflake). He's got Solar Beam. I'm sure there's some potential in that. Who expects an Ice-Type on a Sun team?

Sadly, hail doesn't increase the special defense of Ice types.

A fighting type could be countered by something like Froslass though, and a lot of ice types have access to ground or water moves to deal with fire, but an all Ice team would probably still be pretty bad.

Also, Furijio looks pretty interesting. Solarbeam, Reflect/Acid Armour, Ice Beam/Blizzard, ??? perhaps? *Makes it painfully obvious he doesn't trust Furijio's 30 base defense*

The last one could maybe be Recover, or Confuse Ray (his speed is pretty good), or even Flash Cannon, for giggles.

Releasing names so soon? I'm excited!

I looked at the moves list for the chandelier ghosts, looks mostly like an effects guy. Not sure what to think about that.

Purgatory looks like a useless move.

I think Shandera could be a fairly awesome special attacker with it's dream world ability. Oh, you've got a choice'd fighting or normal type move? Have some 6* calm mind flamethrower that you can't do anything about...

Purgatory is essentially a Fire-type Dynamic Punch or Zap Cannon. Sucky accuracy, but if you can swing it, it always causes the special effect.

The trick is in comboing it with one of Chandelar's other moves. Telekinesis.

Telekinesis makes all moves except for OHKO moves hit 100% of the time on the guy you hit with it for 3 turns. Suddenly Purgatory is as much a done deal as a Machamp's Dynamicpunch.

Alternatively, give him Telekinesis, Willowisp, Fire Blast, and Evil Eye. Use Telekinesis to make Will-o'-Wisp and Fire Blast hit, the Burn empowers Evil Eye.

And before you say that the Telekinesis'd 'mon can just switch out... Shadow Tag!

Speaking of that evolutionary line..is it gonna be a trend to have the 'cutest' new ghost in each generation (okay, it's only happened twice so far...) be the one that devours human souls to fuel its existance?

Pika is pronounced pai-ka though, pikachu is pronounced pee-ka.
Well, a pun doesn't have to necessarily sound punny in order to constitute one.

It's such a shame Baibanira has a bad movepool though.
Personally, I'm not complaining, but that's neither here nor there. With stats like that, it's probably going to end up seeing some use anyway. What really hurts it is the Ice typing.

Hm. Looking at some of the other Ice types, I see some potential in Furijio (the snowflake). He's got Solar Beam. I'm sure there's some potential in that. Who expects an Ice-Type on a Sun team?
Not a bad trick, possibly, but Solar Beam is a really risky move. If they happen to switch into their own weather-changer while you're charging up your lazor, it takes twice as long to use and gets weaker, I think. Then there's the fact that sun makes fire stronger, and chances are that water types would be switched out, and ground types would be weak against ice anyway...

I looked at the moves list for the chandelier ghosts, looks mostly like an effects guy. Not sure what to think about that.
There's a surprising number of critters that have abysmal Special Attack but a great special movepool. So that doesn't necessarily mean much. tongue

That's the point of it being on a sun team. I think you forgot solarbeam doesn't need to charge during sunny day.

[up] No, his point is valid. What if I select Solarbeam, and the opponent switches in, say, a Politoed. Suddenly, my Solarbeam takes 2 turns to go off.

To be fair, now that I think about it, most of the weather changers in question would also be weak to Solarbeam. Politoed, Hippowdon, Tyranitar... Though the could switch them in for free and then out again on the next turn, to something that resists Grass, which would have given them a free turn to change the weather to what you don't want it to be. On the other hand, if what I hear about Solarbeam also getting weaker in different weather is true, then any of those three might as well stay in.
