Particularly creative coordinators can persuade their Cubones to wear some really refined and artistically perfected helmets.

Closet DCLAU fan.wow, a triple post.

I added a little extra blurb about synthetic skulls on the entry, and will probably beef up the social structure subsection in the very near future. Any special hazards to watch out for other than the obvious of being clubbed to death or being mobbed by Cubone/Marowak?

Let's play a game about Pokémon...Why are we going with the synthetic helmets in the first place? Doesn't all the evidence we have point to a nigh-religous respect for there remains? Having synthetic helmets would be like a practioner of Shintou using flour for a family urn.
Closet DCLAU fan.^ Because it would be effectively impossible for a majority of captive-bred Cubone to get their hands on real skull helmets (seriously, what sane trainer is going to try and find a Marowak graveyard and then try and fight off dozens of irate 'mons so his/her little lizard can dig up some bone fragments?)...

Let's play a game about Pokémon...Hazards: Never make a Cubone the target of a Yo Momma joke.
Do you highlight everything looking for secret messages?Aren't all captive Cubone either wild-caught (in which they already have the skulls) or bred (in which they receive them from there mothers)?
Closet DCLAU fan.^ What if you breed more than one from the same mother? (Very, very doable in the games...)
EDIT: ^^ Lawl, but would they understand the joke in the first place (You know, potential language barriers and all...)?

Let's play a game about Pokémon...For the "courting" section- would some of the tribes have arranged marriages?
Do you highlight everything looking for secret messages?^ That's actually a really interesting thought... Among creatures that value social links as much as we're trying to allude for Cubone/Marowak, it actually makes a lot of sense that they would let their (surviving) parents influence their decisions...
Let's play a game about Pokémon...Then we use my shed-skull theory (which also explains why they can't evolve in Daycare). What's better? Making a biological explantion for a observed effect, or making something up that invalidates a major aspect of the subject?
^ Hmm, interesting thought. If anything, I find that they resemble early Modern Humans and Neanderthal Groups. Roaming semi-stable Matriarchci tribes with nomadic singular males who meet up at intervals and breed.

Closet DCLAU fan.^ Considering how we also came to the conclusion that in a pinch, Cubone would sooner don plastic buckets than march around with their heads exposed, I think that it's acceptable. Besides, it's not as if I just worked in the idea that the helmets are actually constructs on my own, we blew a whole page talking about it and alternate theories before settling on this one...

Let's play a game about Pokémon...I'm just saying, all evidence points to a respect for the bones and not a need to hide the face. Using a fake helmet would be almost insulting based on the necrotheist implications the canon gives us. When given two theories is it not the best to choose which one fits better into canon?
^^And on the tribes, I could probably whip up something tonight unless you want to do it.
Closet DCLAU fan.^ IIRC, we came to the conclusion that Cubone have both ritual and very pragmatic reasons for wearing skull helmets. Can we just leave it at that? Also, feel free to add that bit about their societal structures, just keep in mind that other Tropers will be throwing out details there as well...
EDIT: What do these things eat anyways?

Let's play a game about Pokémon...But which is ultimately more important to the Cubone and , more significantly, the idea of Cubone.
I'm not sure on the formal structure of the tribes. The best I could do was the "noble" idea. I was pretty much spitballing with that early human stuff.
Closet DCLAU fan.^ (*sigh* This has been dragging on long enough...) Look, if some other Tropers raise the same objections to what we've got at the moment, I'll (seriously) consider bringing the subsection back up for review and tweaking it. But until then, let's just live with what we've got. Does that sound fair?
On another note, that extra fluff you suggested for the guys' social structure seems pretty intriguing...

Let's play a game about Pokémon...To continue with the whole "competitors to early-man thing", Cubone are omnivorous hunter-gatherers. Sending out small parties to look for edible vegetation and berries. Occasionally taking down large prey, such as Rhyhorn.

Sorry, I can't hear you from my FLYING METAL BOX!I don't think you could eat a Rhyhorn [tounge]
Also, when exactly did the first trainers apear?
Closet DCLAU fan. Before the pokeballs came about, pokemon were domesticated and trained the old-fashioned way, and healing took more time. Once healing machines and pokeballs appeared, trainers as we know them became more common.
The three finest things in life are to splat your enemies, drive them from their turf, and hear their lamentations as their rank falls!^^Maybe not for food, but they could hunt them for their sturdy bones or something. Stantler or Raticate could be more viable prey, in retrospect.
Sorry, I can't hear you from my FLYING METAL BOX!
Maybe note that cave painting depicting human-Cubone battles can be found in both ancient human settlements and Cubone dwelling places, and that certain legendary figures appear in both.
(Not particularly entry-relevant, but I'm wondering about how those synthetic helmets get used in Contests now...)
