Gush About Tropers You Like

Go To

(I'm not sure where this really belongs, so I'm putting it in YF for now. Mods, feel free to move it to Forum Games if you think it fits better there.)

The point of this thread is to list your favorite tropers and say what makes you like them so much. Please be specific; we already have Gushing About Shows You Like if you want to gush about TV Tropes or the Forums in general.

EDIT: Chopped the list because it's now quite outdated, and there are some comments in here that only made sense back in 2009 and may have even been a bit creepy.

Which is why my favorite knife is the straight keris.

Thrice-damned government! I want to use it!

(okay i guess it's not really a knife)

@ Grog: Making the knife more efficient in use takes precedence over making it look pretty.

They're mostly for ceremonial purposes, I think... what about the wavy ones?

The wavy ones aren't really good for anything. Besides ceremonies.

And...torture, I guess?

Oh right.

But the straight ones are mostly ceremonial weapons too! Daggers don't tend to be very useful in actual combat.

Depends on the nature of the combat. Daggers are a great backup weapon for close-quarters combat, and are pretty good in self-defense in a culture where it's unlikely someone's carrying anything more deadly.

Well, during the various wars against the Dutch, lots of sharp objects saw action, but the keris was usually associated with the ruling class...

How about the SMLE bayonet?
