(I'm not sure where this really belongs, so I'm putting it in YF for now. Mods, feel free to move it to Forum Games if you think it fits better there.)
The point of this thread is to list your favorite tropers and say what makes you like them so much. Please be specific; we already have Gushing About Shows You Like if you want to gush about TV Tropes or the Forums in general.
EDIT: Chopped the list because it's now quite outdated, and there are some comments in here that only made sense back in 2009 and may have even been a bit creepy.

Because you are averting one of our cultural stereotypes. For example, a study was made on how more airlines crashed when the copilot is of Filipino or Korean descent than say, Australian. This is because in our culture, it is considered impolite to contest the person who is of a higher position than you are. Australians are blunt, well, most of them are. A Filipino copilot would see the captain's mistake and say, "Umm, isn't this a better way of doing that?" while the Australian would go "You're doing it wrong."
I know this because my Electromagnetics lecturer, the director of our Institute got his Ph.D in Australia.

My FF.net accountYou see, Crisostomo Ibarra was doing it right: Use what you learn from foreigners to further your country.
INT is knowing a tomato is a fruit. WIS is knowing it doesn't belong in a fruit salad. CHA is convincing people that it does. And before anyone calls ALL HEIL NIPPON on me, this is what the Japanese did in the Meiji period which directly led to their becoming a world power by the time WWII rolled around.
My FF.net accountPeter the Great did it too. Thoguh I hazard he was being too enthusaistic since he did the beard-cutting thing.
ED: Would also consider my patriotism to be a good thing?

I'm outside in the hall. It's too hot in my room. Okay, here's the options:
Wait, I better post this in Troper Updates.

I agree with this, though it's because you post in Yack Fest in the dead of US night, when it's slow enough for me to keep up.
