TO: LADY IN BLACK FROM: MIKE WERB (CREATOR)
Q: Where is Jasper's mother? I'm just curious. I could have sworn he said something about her leaving for Paris....but I could be very mistaken. I often get confused. Anyway, I'd really like to know.....Unless it's going to be the subject of a future episode. Which would be awesome.
A: Yes, she is in France (as stated in the pilot). And yes, it will be dealt with in a future episode.
Q: While on the subject, what about Maggie's mom? We know/ have seen her dad, but, like Jasper, not her mom.
A: Maggie's mom is also in the Air Force. Initially, she was in the Houdini episode "Now You See Him" but both of her parents were edited out in the script stage. She is referenced, however in "Curse of the Rolling Stone" when Maggie (after getting the better of her kidnapper) tells Henry she learned how to tie handcuff knots from her mother.
Q: Do you know the name of the song Jasper was listening to in the pilot (on his headphones) when he first met Henry? I just liked it, but couldn't make out the lyrics to google it.
A: I'm pretty sure it's"MAGNIFICO" by Grand Analog.

I must say, the Revolutionary Era Atomic Bomb reminds me a lot of the alternate history stories I read. To find that the American Founding Fathers were able to construct such a weapon would irrevocably alter both historical and scientific thought. The concept is highly ASB but the episode was extemely fun.
Just out of curiosity, where did you get the idea?

Would season 2 actually start in the Gobi Desert? Seriously, I wasn't expecting the To Be Continued sign at the end.
Follow me on tumblr!PENTADRAGON: The finale's "Cloud Mechanism" bomb was inspired by the 1900 discovery of the Antikythera Mechanism by sponge divers in Greece. It took decades for scientists to finally put it together and figure out what it was (look it up!) ... but the bottom line is the ancients built something thought to have been impossible at that point in time.
Also, I knew I wanted Henry to reproduce Franklin's iconic kite experiment for the season finale — and then when they actually found Washington's overdue library book ... well ... it all came together from there.
PRIVATE CORP: Thanks for the props. It was a fun one to write!
POKENATIC: No spoilers about S-2 (assuming we get one!) at this point!
THANKS EVERYONE!!!!!!! YOU GUYS ARE ALL WICKEDLY DOPEY IN YOUR AWESOMENESS!
@ Giantrats88: I know this is the wrong thread to ask this, but what's your favorite serial of Doctor Who?
Follow me on tumblr!i should have said "new" doctor who fan. i know the older ones were serialized but i only started watching when david tennant came on to play the doctor ... although i guess a few of them were two-parters (i still haven't seen them all — and just watched the first two with matt smith).

Mr. Werb, what I consider stuff that you have gotten away with was like how the pilot was about a murder mystery, and the villain shooting a poison dart at Henry and Jasper.
Stuff like having the loaded guns pointed at the high school age characters.
I realize that TVPG puts it beyond what one normally conisders "kid's show", but for something on the normally younger audience skewing Cartoon Network, I was shocked at some of the stuff that you could do.
Fore more examples, please see the "Getting Crap Past The Radar" page that the show has.

LAST TIME LORD: okay, now i know what you mean. yeah, in retrospect we did get away with some stuff especially in the pilot. they did allow "crap" and "freaking" but once the series was happening i was told i couldn't use either of those words anymore. post-pilot, they have discouraged the use of guns — without excluding them. it depends on the circumstances. but we are not allowed to show a gun pointed at someone's head in the same shot. in any case, it's been fun coming up with more exotic weapons ... as well as building some humorous dialogue for older viewers (eg. in "heart of the warrior" when katya touches jasper's secret microphone and he later complains to henry that she was trying to "deflower" him — one of many like-moments noted in tropes UH page).
Then can you fix some of the quotes? You don't have to, but it'd be nice that we're not showing incorrect quotes.

Follow me on tumblr!Mr Werb, how did you get the offspring to let you use "you're gonna go far kid" in the Japanese episode?
Untitled Power Rangers StoryPOKENATIC: i will do a little fixin' as soon as i get a chance!
VAN THE BARON: THE OFFSPRING was no problem — all we had to do was pay them. in fact, over the entire season, the ONLY band that insisted on seeing the footage before giving us music rights was AGAINST ME. fortunately, they liked "past, presidents and future" and we were able to use their song "rapid decompression" for the mt. vernon chase sequence in the season finale.
Ok. One more question, is heir anysong you want to use but won't be able too for any reason
Untitled Power Rangers Story@GIANTRATS 88: o.o
I agree with vanthebaron, that would have been awesome. :) Too bad it was so expensive. T.T Oh well, the episode still rocked.

I'm snarky. That is all.

@ B Six/Werb:
WOW. Let me say that I love your show (even though I'm seventeen and a bit out of the targeted age range). When I first saw the promos for Unnatural History I was quite wary. But then I saw the episodes and hope was restored.
What I like most about the show is how naturally the characters interact. When I watch I forget it's TV. It's like I'm actually standing there. The conversation flows and isn't something forced or over the top to garner laughs. Seriously, give my regards to Schmidt, Gavaris, and Ricci. They do a FANTASTIC job with their character and restore my hope in young actors everywhere. My favorite character is Jasper, because he reminds me of myself. Clumsy and a bit dorky/goofy, but smart and snarky. Plus, he makes me laugh out loud. <3
And of course I like the darker, more mature take the show has. It's just more realistic. Where Jasper and Henry got chased by gun toting masked men in the pilot? I was like "YES! Realism FTW!" Though I do realize this is a kid's show, so I'm not expecting everything to be perfectly realistic. I mean, the show itself is about three teens who find treasures that have been lost for centuries (unearthed by even leading experts) on a daily basis. And I'm perfectly fine with that. :)
Now, I just have three questions.
1) Where is Jasper's mother? I'm just curious. I could have sworn he said something about her leaving for Paris....but I could be very mistaken. I often get confused. Anyway, I'd really like to know.....Unless it's going to be the subject of a future episode. Which would be awesome.
2) While on the subject, what about Maggie's mom? We know/ have seen her dad, but, like Jasper, not her mom.
3) Do you know the name of the song Jasper was listening to in the pilot (on his headphones) when he first met Henry? I just liked it, but couldn't make out the lyrics to google it.
(I've seen Jasper's headphones in his locker and him listening to them during the start of scenes. I like the personal touch. Little traits like that help round out his character.)
