What interesting things have you only recently learned about?

To be clear, this is about things which have been true for some time and you only recently learned about, not things that only happened recently. In particular, recent deaths of celebrities and other high-profile individuals should go in the General RIP Thread.

Hey guys...and gals...I was just browsing through an XKCD strip and ended up learning that Jimmy Carter was attacked by a swimming rabbit.

joey: Oh yeah, you're right it isn't. I just saw the greek and instantly thought "biblical name" because a lot of Biblical names are borrowed via Latin and Greek.

Or, well, depends how you define "Biblical Name". I often think of the Old Testament with those words, and Old Testament names are largely Semitic, though they might be the Greek or Latin version.

Also, I hadn't realised George is a Greek name. Cool.

From the Greek name Γεωργιος (Georgios) which was derived from the Greek word γεωργος (georgos) meaning "farmer, earthworker", itself derived from the elements γη (ge) "earth" and εργον (ergon) "work".

Despite not actually intended to be in a manga/anime style, I still have Tsurime and Tareme eyes, even if they're more subtle.

There is one man who could beat Chuck Norris. That man is dead. It has been said that Norris is afraid to die, because if he did, BRUCE LEE would be waiting for him.

^^^ A deal was once made between Chuck Norris and Bruce Lee during the filming of Enter the Dragon where Bruce would defeat Chuck in a fight. No one knows the conditions of that deal but Mr. Lee died “mysteriously” soon after leaving behind only one witness who claims there was a flash of light and a single roundhouse kick.

I didn't know until now that my dad has met some of the people who were heavily involved with Rugrats. I don't know who it was or if it was the creator but all I know is he met some people who were heavily involved with Rugrats.

Part of a chase scene for Walker, Texas Ranger was filmed in the cul-de-sac I lived at as a kid. I was probably too busy playing Star Fox to notice.

The Magnificent bastard page says that Bill helped kill O-Ren's parents in Kill Bill. If thats true, then I feel pretty stupid for not knowing who the guy who killed Ren's father was.

I don’t think they ever make it absolutely clear. But people have noticed some similarities in the rings on the guys hand and Bill. It’s not really official, more fan speculation, however.
