What interesting things have you only recently learned about?

To be clear, this is about things which have been true for some time and you only recently learned about, not things that only happened recently. In particular, recent deaths of celebrities and other high-profile individuals should go in the General RIP Thread.

I was looking back at past entries in some forum games I participated in, only to find that I got ninja'd back in late November. I was surprised that I and everyone else didn't notice the ninja until now.

Funny is actually the most populous Moments namespace according to the Article Count — followed by Awesome, Heartwarming, Tear Jerker, Nightmare Fuel, Awesome Music, and then Shocking way at the bottom (only 19 pages!). Honestly expected Nightmare Fuel to be at the top because of how misused it is, but it’s at the bottom of the main 5.

I'm also surprised that Funny/ is the most populous Moments namespace, between NightmareFuel/ having a reputation of shoehorns and Awesome/ being the oldest Moments category, or at least the oldest of the ones in Sugar Wiki (though Awesome/ being at least second isn't surprising), though I'm not surprised that Shocking/ is the smallest due to how new that namespace is compared to the others (I think it was launched in 2019, while the others from the beginning of that decade, if not from some point in the decade before that). This is also something I didn't know about until now.

It's not surprising to me. I think funny moments are easier to pick out.

Wonder how much of that is directly due to the ASD, and how much of it is due to people on the spectrum generally not being as responsive to social pressures that might push other people in one direction or another.

Dog actors have their tails remade to stay still in CGI since they tend to wag a lot when they're happy shooting a scene.

TIL that bees traveling between worlds is a part of European folklore, and "telling the bees" of prominent deaths or other happenings is a way to keep them alive and content. Many mythological tales talk of Virtuous Bees.

[up][up][up][up][up][up] The syrinx is the organ that birds use to vocalize (similar to the larynx in mammals). It’s often assumed that storks don’t have it since they can’t vocalize, but they actually do have a vestigial syrinx.

Peace is the only battle worth waging.

According to The Other Wiki they can make some throat noise, but it's very weak, so they communicate by clattering their beaks.

According to Sonic Channel, Sonic the Hedgehog stands at 3'3". Despite this, whenever the two appear alongside each other in games, they are the same height.Feb 7, 2021

I thought the troper meant Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (The game not the character) was 3 foot which didnt make sense so I Googled it.

EDIT: Also gotta say this before I forget it but if you press Ctrl F you can search inside the closed captioning itself on a Youtube video.
