What interesting things have you only recently learned about?
To be clear, this is about things which have been true for some time and you only recently learned about, not things that only happened recently. In particular, recent deaths of celebrities and other high-profile individuals should go in the General RIP Thread
.
So, what interesting things have you guys...and gals...only recently learned about?

x8: Actually there's overlap, but a fraud is specifically deceiving people to deprive them of money (basically robbery via a hoax). It's no more hypocritical than a prankster being against bank robbery.
As for why I know that? Legally, you can change your name (which I've done) here, as long as it isn't for fraud. Fraud is defined here as deceiving people to make money. So changing your name for deception's fine (e.g. to avoid someone who's harassing you) and for money's fine (e.g. as part of a publicity stunt, to make a stage name official), just not both at once.
TV Tropes's No. 1 bread themed lesbian. she/her, fae/faerWhat puzzles me is why it takes so long for authorities to expose fraudulent names or actions (mind you, the answer is obvious for the case of my country >_>, but how it can still happen in more developed countries is baffling to me).
Lunin, one of Real Madrid's goalkeepers, was born in Ukraine, not Russia. Now I can better understand how he's feeling over the current conflict.

Peace is the only battle worth waging.Neopets added an item called "Zombie JubJub Morphing Potion" in 2015, but didn't actually release the Zombie JubJub for another six years exactly. In the interim, it apparently did absolutely nothing.

Cave Johnson, we're done here.Thomas Jefferson discontinued the State of the Union in 1801 because he thought it was too monarchical, and Woodrow Wilson revived it in 1913.
Come on! Let's bless them all until we get fershnickered!- Lab coats used to be black to symbolize the coming of death. As advancements in medical procedures came along, doctors decided to phase out the black lab coats in favor of a more sterile white color.
- There is a Plok webcomic. It's been running since 2013. No joke, check it out.

Apparently Little Fighter 2 had a built-in character editor that's been dummied out. Whaaaa—?!
"Can you even read the blackboard written clear as can be?" / "Can you even read his mind? See that kid's lost fantasy?"Brightspace, the learning management platform my college uses, can have a text-to-speech program create on-the-spot audio versions of the documents my professors upload. While not perfect, with everything being read out, it is still amazing and is a total lifesaver.

~Walk In Shadows ~MacronNotes A post about the dead ant thing
from a few days ago
This post is the entire reason we know about that, so when we stumbled across it again we had to bring it back here
this obviously isn't a thing we recently learned about but uhhhhh if there's a proper place to put "relatedly to our conversation in another thread" things we don't know it lmao
Suddenly I'm... still rotating Fallen London in my mind even though I've stopped actively playing it.

P. T. Barnum had his obituary published before his death so that he might read it. He also despised fraudsters (apparently there's a difference between fraud and hoax because he was cool with using hoaxes but hated frauds) and said he'd pay $200 to any medium who could prove they could speak to the dead. He kept the 200.
