Why not? I'm sure the show used to be good, it had to be to get so popular, but now its definitely very not good.

Because the creator had left the show for a long time, as even he felt that the show's quality would decrease over time. Saying that his legacy is a show that sucked for reasons he wished to avoid by trying to end the show sooner is not only unfair, but also reeks Creator Bashing. In other words, it's a "hate the show, not the person" thing.
It's as if George Lucas died and then people rejoiced over that after having disliked the Star Wars sequel trilogy, in which he wasn't involved at all.

I kinda read the "this is his legacy" bit as "damn it sucks that despite his active attempts to avoid it, the show did end up turning out as bad as he was worried and people are gonna associate him with that forever"?
Nobody here is celebrating his death, that's for sure.

I realized only now there are two variants of the opening of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe (1983) (Yes, I'm going on a Masters craze recently). Until some days ago I knew only the version where the "created by Lou Scheimer" sign lasts until He-Man mentions Sorceress and the scene of her transforming from eagle to human is played on the same black-dark blue background as the sign, but there is one where the sign disappears as soon as He-Man starts talking again after the punch towards the screen and haves an additional shot of Sorceress, Man-At-Arms and Orko together in front of a black screen with a blue effect, and the scene with Sorceress alone haves the background of the interior of Castle Greyskull.
