What interesting things have you only recently learned about?
To be clear, this is about things which have been true for some time and you only recently learned about, not things that only happened recently. In particular, recent deaths of celebrities and other high-profile individuals should go in the General RIP Thread.
So, what interesting things have you guys...and gals...only recently learned about?

Apparently Team Aqua and Team Magma from Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire were based on an actual ecological debate that happened in Japan.
"Hope for our world, tragedy for another."What was the debate?
I like to keep my audience riveted.Presumably, knowing Ruby and Sapphire, something along the lines of the land being more important or the sea being more important.
SoundCloud22/7 is not the same value as pi. I maybe forgot so when I first learned of it but my brain believed so for quite some time.
Are you afraid?Wait what
artsy geek | any pronouns | "well, if you're hearing this, then chances are you've made a very poor career choice."22/7 is a very common approximation of pi, only accurate to two decimal places.

Trouble Cube continues to be a general-purpose forum for those who desire such a thing. The original 60s Spider-Man cartoon was on ABC. Disney owns ABC and Spider-Man, it's a small world.
Pi, by virtue of being an irrational number, cannot be expressed exactly as any kind of fraction.
Python (the programming language) was named after Monty Python, not the snake.
Peace is the only battle worth waging. There's a video game called Darkened Skye. I'm... just gonna post the synopsis from the game's Wikipedia article.

We have a page for Darkened Skye, too.
Trouble Cube continues to be a general-purpose forum for those who desire such a thing. Why does Wikipedia feel the need to specifically mention that she doesn’t use firearms. Like, neither does Link (well, I guess you could technically count the fire rod as a firearm) and nobody feels the need to mention it.
"Hope for our world, tragedy for another."Yeah on rereading what an irrational number was and seeing pi as an example, I then compared it with 22/7 on my calculator and that's how I realised they weren't the same.
Are you afraid?Another one that's more like "Things you didn't remember until very recently." Tom Cruise was the star of Minority Report. I thought it was Colin Farrell for some reason.
I like to keep my audience riveted.Wikirby has a page called List of Mysteries.
"Hope for our world, tragedy for another."Kamala Harris has a Useful Notes page.
Granted, I expected it, but like.
Huh.
artsy geek | any pronouns | "well, if you're hearing this, then chances are you've made a very poor career choice."Another Wikirby thing. They list us as an external link on their Smash Ultimate page.
"Hope for our world, tragedy for another."Since we link to them on Trivia.Kirby, does that make us partners?
SoundCloudMmmmmmmaybe.
artsy geek | any pronouns | "well, if you're hearing this, then chances are you've made a very poor career choice."Who can say.
"Hope for our world, tragedy for another."The Discord Mascot is named Clyde.
"Hope for our world, tragedy for another."Isn't it Wumpus? When I searched "Clyde discord" it comes up with some bot.
"Don't cry because it's over, cry because it happened."Hey, that's what the little video game style information thing they show you while it loads said.
"Hope for our world, tragedy for another."There's two. Wumpus is the mascot that shows up in stickers and some other things, and Clyde is the logo.
A great Mascot Mook.
Not only does the United Arab Emirates have a space agency, the chair of said agency is this woman. She is also one of nine female ministers currently in the UAE cabinet.
