What interesting things have you only recently learned about?
To be clear, this is about things which have been true for some time and you only recently learned about, not things that only happened recently. In particular, recent deaths of celebrities and other high-profile individuals should go in the General RIP Thread
.
So, what interesting things have you guys...and gals...only recently learned about?

The late Brad Venable was the voice of Venom in... uh, Venom (2018). Uncredited, of course.

Spider-Man once read Atlas Shrugged and yelled at some protestors. Turns out Steve Ditko was real into Ayn Rand.
Read Pokemon Ultimate EmeraldVoice actors that knew him best had confirmed in the replies of another tweet from someone else that made that discovery, but those replies have been deleted. People assume he made an agreement at the time with Sony and Columbia Pictures not to disclose that he was the real voice for Venom.

There's a Polandball game
on the Nintendo Switch.
Makes me wonder about potential legal complications that would come with making Polandball media on a grand scale because it technically isn't copyrighted and doesn't belong to anyone as an IP. (At least to the extent of my knowledge anyway.)
Reindeer in the direction of reindeer
That's interesting. I didn't know it didn't belong to anyone.
I just found out that "pretentious" means "attempting to impress by affecting greater importance, talent, culture, etc., than is actually possessed." I always thought it meant "educated and cultured, but showing these qualities in an arrogant and haughty way."
So basically, pretentious means "not actually cultured," while I thought it meant "actually cultured, but being a jerk about it."

Read Pokemon Ultimate EmeraldRepublican congressman Dan Crenshaw cooked up a bonkers campaign ad depicting him as a supersoldier fighting a shadowy cabal.
I told him on Twitter he should re-title it "Metal Gear Silly" and name the protagonist "Nostepon Snek".

Today I learned of the Wood Rose
, also known as the Flower of Hades
, that only grows in specific regions of New Zealand. It's actually a parasitic flowering plant that attaches to a host tree, tends to grow in dark and wet places, apparently smells bad, and is pollinated by bats. It's an endangered species
because it's valuable and rare.

The Protomen enhanced my life.

Tolkein made a parody of Fairy Tale stories before he ever made Lord Of The Rings or Hobbit. Seriously, people to adapt his lesser known works. This could make for a good animated movie. Although I am glad it wouldn't be make during Shrek, because it would have had forced pop culture jokes.
