What interesting things have you only recently learned about?
To be clear, this is about things which have been true for some time and you only recently learned about, not things that only happened recently. In particular, recent deaths of celebrities and other high-profile individuals should go in the General RIP Thread
.
So, what interesting things have you guys...and gals...only recently learned about?

In 2000, ABBA declined a $1 billion offer to reunite for a 100-stop tour.

Peace is the only battle worth waging. That's a pretty neat offer, even if you have to split it between the 4 members (well, and a pretty large staff to organise the tour, I suppose, if that's not included in the offer). A lot of winnings to be taken. The fans definitely have dreams about this sort of tour, and would thank them for the music.
Considering the circumstances around the band's break-up, though I can get why they wouldn't want to take a chance on themselves again. Knowing them, it might be pretty hard for some of them to tolerate each other through that tour without crying for their mothers or something, when the emergency signals start to sound. It would be a sort of final battleground for the factions within the group. The whole thing would just slip through their fingers.
Sorry.
Quod gratis asseritur, gratis negatur.
I’m surprised you didn’t try to sneak “Money, Money, Money” in there.
It's illegal to die in Longyearbyen, Norway because the body would be contaminated by the Spanish flu from the 11 corpses buried in the permafrost. If a person is about to die, then they're flown out of the town to Oslo to live their last moments. But if they die suddenly...
Still waiting for someone to break him free...That's not true. The new law says that if there's no active consent, it's treated as rape. If both parties say out loud that they want it, that's enough. The stuff about requiring written consent looks like a fairly deliberate misunderstanding by the right-wing press.
Quod gratis asseritur, gratis negatur.Kinda like how Canada’s law against intentionally misgendering people got misrepresented as “you’ll go to jail for using the wrong pronouns, even if you have no prior indication of that person’s preferences”.
Peace is the only battle worth waging.A neighbor older than my father (I specify because we have very few of those) had a heart attack five years ago and only found out two weeks ago.
Blog linkMiss A disbanded late last year. I thought they were still on hiatus and that after Min left JYP would eventually try to continue Fei and Suzy as a duo a la 15& - who themselves are still in the dungeon - but apparently JYP does not like female duos.

I thought the folks over at Studio Ghibli didn't like to do sequels? It would be kinda cool to see them make a sequel to Ponyo, though.
The Fox Movies channels in Southeast Asia air Disney movies, and have been doing so before Disney's recent acquisition of Fox in December 2017, if this Fox Family Movies continuity
from the summer of 2017 is any indication.

I've pretty much memorized all of my countries, or at the very least I've recognized what continents they're from. That way, I can at least have an idea of what part of the world it's from should I forget it exists (for example, say that I forget Comoros is a country. If someone suddenly reminded me of it, then the first thing I would think to myself would probably be "Comoros? Oh, that's in Africa, isn't it?").
According to an episode of
Oddity Archive, interactive TV was a thing once.

Peace is the only battle worth waging.

Also of note, Ralph Bakshi supervised the animation.
