I think crying is just fine.

Yes, presenting crying as a feminine thing might carry Unfortunate Implications, but then I thought, presenting something (first panel) as "unfeminine" isn't exactly innocuous either. Just roll along the current zeitgeist; crying is fine.

The words above are to be read as if they are narrated by Morgan Freeman.

True... that first panel doesn't look very combat-like.

Why not have the third panel be from How I Became Yours? That would definitely be an example of the trope.

[up][up] Of those I prefer the second.

[up][up][up] The test will be whether those resize well enough when shrunk down, or how they look if they have to be cropped around Katara.

[up] I find a good way of resizing is to just zoom out on your browser. Just a piece of advice I may as well put out there...

We could try a picture of Oliver Armstrong since she has a noticeable hatred to be accused or given anything that is considered feminine, where she will immediately destroy such gift (such as a bouquet that Roy Mustang gave her with flowers that in their name mean feminine).

EDIT: Maybe this will help Link

That's not really what the trope is about.

I think switching out the action!Katara pic with one of the two suggestions (for me I'd say the second one) and we'd have it made.

Bumping because this thread seemed to have slipped behind while Mulan remained as the page image.

Yeah, I'm going to stand my my previous statement [up][up], and I'd think we have it made.

[up] Did you mean to point to my post or the one above it?

EDIT: One flaw with that image, though, is the quality of the image of the reaction guys. Here is a link to the Know Your Meme entry on them, and if we could resize those images to within the TV Tropes width limit we would have a better-quality image. (Or maybe significantly less than the width limit, but I don't think a tall image is all that bad when the article itself is long.)

The width right now is 241 Pixels.

The low quality might just be an artifact of me using a freeware editing software. EDIT: Confirmed!

[up] In any case, my point is that the quality of the images of the reaction guys themselves could be significantly improved by using the images from the Know Your Meme page.

I did use the Know Your Meme images. They still turned out exactly the same when shrunk.

How did you resize the images? My approach is typically to zoom out in the browser until screenshots of them put the desired images within the TV Tropes width limit.

Okay, those are a bit wider than the image in your post, but they demonstrate my point. For what it's worth here are the results when I zoom out the browser enough to have them closer in width to the images you used.

EDIT: I suppose I could replace those parts of the image with the parts I got, but first I want to see if higher-quality versions of the Avatar The Last Airbender parts of the image could be yielded the same way. (I guess it depends on where you or whoever else got them from.)

Do we put it up, or does it need to be cleaned up? (the image)

Also I like the original caption idea....what was it, "If she was a real woman, she wouldn't be crying!" ?????

I haven't even edited it in yet. o.o

Again, all I was doing was showing the results of the zoom-out-in-your-browser method of image resizing. I was not inclined to decide the image size, which panels to use, etc...

For what it's worth, though, one problem with the current approach is that the facial expressions of the reaction guys almost look like facial expressions of sympathy for the crying girl. Perhaps something else for the feminine part might be an idea after all.
