I don't know the trope for it, in any case, isn't that a big enough strawman?

I think it's a pretty stupid characterization of casual gamers. Also, the insinuation of homosexuality is really just a cheap shot. That's pretty tasteless, even for VG Cats. It's like, nobody that stupid or shallow would be in any position to review games. Not even on Gamespot.

That comic, compounded with that self-indulgent "Nerd Rage" thing...

XKCD. I just didn't like it anymore after the "You're a kitty!" strip. As well as Square Root of Garfield, which just seemed boring after a while. As you can see, I get bored of ones with math in them.

Just a slightly off topic question, how do you use google reader for webcomics? None of the ones I've tried worked (except for XKCD and that was demonstrated in the tutorial).

I've given up on Dominic Deegan. It was on the bubble for some time, but a few weeks ago I just got bored with the storyline. Plus There were a lot of new characters that all looked too similar. Boredom plus confusion don't make for an enjoyable read. While I'm not going to fall into the rabid hatedom, I'm not going to check the comic anymore.

Penny And Aggie finally pushed enough of my buttons that after the Popsicle Wars ended in absolute Epic Fail, I couldn't come up with a reason to read anymore at all. I was still semi-interested in the Charlotte plot, but after seeing the characters continue to act like self-righteous assholes for about a week or so after, I gave up in the knowledge that T. Campbell is only capable of writing anti-climax and asshole characters.

I had stopped reading Sluggy Freelance, but despite not being entirely happy with it, I am reading it again. I'll see if it lasts.

Kevin And Kell is down from a daily read to an occasional catch up at best. The comic seems to have been neutered by its Unpleasable Fanbase and there's little of interest happening in there anymore. Occasionally an interesting plot might start, but it's killed in a week or two before it can really get any steam. I keep hoping he'll try something more daring again and I was hopeful about Catherine Aura's twitter, but I'm trying to keep my hopes tampered. What's really sad is I started reading Holbrook's other two strips and they're far more intriguing, and also far more funny, than arguably his most imaginative and less restricted strip. I look forward to reading those with the fervor I used to have for Kevin And Kell.

Mega Tokyo got dull. About once a year I check up on it to see it move ahead about five minutes in time.

VG Cats got summed up pretty well - on top of the non-existant updates, the guy's apparently turned into a self-parody of every insecure coretard on the internet.

I'm seriously considering dropping Las Lindas and the other Katbox comics. The sheer Diabolus ex Machina in the latest arc is just getting worse and worse all for the sake of drama.

Fantasy Realms Online. Why, for the love of god, did they stop making it? Makes me sad.

Ctrl+Alt+Del: It was getting really predictable and old, to the point where I could almost always predict what was going to happen, but I kept hanging on, hoping for something new to happen. The Choose Your Own Adventure was something new, but than the miscarriage happened, and I stopped reading at that point.

Dominic Deegan: It was funny, but too cliche for me to continue on after the first ten comics. Plus, the art was horrible. I jumped to the latest comic and saw that it was still the same art and jokes. Nothing had ever changed after who knows how many years. So I stopped going there.

Dueling Analogs: I liked some of the jokes, but all the adult humor sickened me. Plus, I got really tired of the ejaculation jokes. I also stopped reading the artist's other comic after realizing it was the exact same thing, just without the good jokes and with copy-and-paste art. And sexism.

XKCD: Despite the stick figure art, I enjoyed some of the jokes, and for a long while I read the webcomic. Than the comic became too serious, and I just stopped reading after that. If a comic gets too serious, it's no longer worth reading. You can get serious, but just make it funny, like what Calvin & Hobbes did.

Anything furry: I've read quite a few of them, having once been part of the fandom, but now I refuse to read anything with furries in it. I don't care how family-friendly it is, eventually the comic will include either sex, references to sex, or sexual jokes. It's pretty disgusting.

Even if it's a vague, obviously non-fetishistic reference to two characters having procreative sex to spawn the protagonist?

I have yet to find any webcomic, or for that matter any newspaper comic strip, that doesn't include at least sexual humor from time to time. Human beings find sex funny...

Meantime, I've stopped reading one, recently. Count Your Sheep. I think it's just that the sense of humor doesn't really fit for me anymore, and the characters are too cynical to fix their bleak situation. I don't see the point to reading something so depressing.

Calvin and Hobbes, maybe? I don't remember any sexual humour in there.

I recall no sexual humor in Family Circus. Maybe that's best restricted to webcomics.

Family Circus does not count. j/k

Yeah, it's probably best to say "most" instead of "any," and it's definitely more prevalent in webcomics.

The characters from Count Your Sheep were cynical? I read the first few months of strips and I have a hard time believing that.

It's a deep undercurrent, Meta Four. There's sadness underlying the whole thing. And they'll never get a car, they'll always be put off about it... Laurie will never be able to feel right around people (she's put off about people being nice to her! Come on!) and throughout it all, their only solace is in imagination.

It's excessively bleak, to me. I'm not expecting everyone to feel this way, it's just a personal feeling.

I don't count DeadComics or completed works.

  • VG Cats: Not as funny as it used to be. Irregular updates doesn't help, even with RSS feed.
  • Ctrl Alt Del: Got boring.
  • Mega Tokyo: The first time I quit because of the ScheduleSlips. Three comics a week was fine with me, but when it got less than that? After Gallagher made it his fulltime job? A friend convinced me to wait until he finished a whole chapter, which I did. It only made me realized I'd gotten tired of the slow pace and didn't care about the characters anymore.
  • Cwen's Quest: Lost interest.
  • Dominic Deegan: Not sure when I stopped liking it, but I quit after Super Greg.
  • Jack: Stopped once I realized I was only reading it for Fnar and Farrago.
  • The Zombie Hunters: Love the worldbuilding and the different types of zombies, but I lost track of it and haven't really been interested in it again.
  • Charby The Vampirate: Couldn't keep track of everyone.
  • Penny And Aggie: Lost interest.
  • Elf Only Inn: Went on hiatus, and I wasn't interested in the MMORPG-version.
  • Misfile: Did an Archive Binge, but it didn't keep my interest.
  • Faux Pas: Got bored.
  • Dresden Codak: Is too Dada Comics for me.

Userfriendly: I didn't have access to my links and forgot to keep up with it. I realised that I didn't miss it that much and have been reading out of inertia, despite the fact I started in 2000.

Megatokyo is quickly approaching this for me. Between the infrequent updates (once a week seems to be a pipe dream) and the completely incomprehensible story, things have slowed to an absolute crawl. And I don't even really care about the characters anymore.

I mean, Piro got the girl. Sort of. Largo got the girl. Sort of. Miho is...dead? And now, we've got magical girls, mind screwy Cave of Evil subplots, and time basically stopped advancing. I don't even know what's going on anymore.

I actually like Fred's dramatic spin better than Largo's comedy. But Fred seems to be working very hard to avoid wrapping up ANYTHING in a given comic. By that, I mean that a single comic contains A) no open and shut dialog, B) no jokes, and C) 100% dangling threads. Characters interact for 6 panels and nothing is resolved. Unless I reread the entire story once a month, I forget what is going on by the time a new strip is posted. I love his art, but it's getting old.

Sure, I'll still buy the books, though - maybe then it will make sense again.

Kevin And Kell. After the initial enamorement passed, I noticed the annoying political content (completely opposed to my own vision of the world). Besides, it stopped being funny a few years ago.

Ctrl Alt Del. I lost interest completely after the storyline involving "the church of gaming" or somesuch. And besides, later I've read some interesting stuff about Tim Buckley. I'm kinda-sorta in the Hatedom, but not completely (for example, I disagree with criticizing the art style).

Red Meat. Stopped being funny. Started reusing its own previous strips, word-to-word! (I can't recall the exact occurrences, but it happened at least once.)

Free Fall. I lost interest. Besides, the story moves so slowly that, by now, I completely forgot what the plot is.
