I don't dislike Rei, and I want her to survive, but I don't want her to end up with Takashi. I guess I can tolerate her as a part of a Tenchi Solution, but otherwise, Saeko deserves him better than her.
I agree with this. I don't particularly see why she needs to die or have any unfortunate happenings thrust upon her, but I really don't want her to end up with Takashi.
I mean really, this should be common sense for Takashi. You have two girls, equally hot, except one treats you like shit and the other doesn't. Which is the more logical choice here?

I've got new mythological machinery, and very handsome supernatural scenery. Goodfae: a mafia web serialMaybe it's just because the English dub is a wonderful source of Narm and awesome one-liners.

I've got new mythological machinery, and very handsome supernatural scenery. Goodfae: a mafia web serialWhile I was the one who first pointed out Rei's flaws, it's important to note that all this shit was dropped right on her skull out of nowhere.
As already pointed out, her old boyfriend was killed by her other old boyfriend. That has to be awkward. People can do and say crazy things in these situations.
When you think about it, even if she does still care about Takashi, there might be a part of her that thinks: "well isn't it a little disrespectful to get together with Takashi when Hisashi (that is his name right?) is barely in the ground."
Also, we are still in the dark about exactly why they broke up in the first place (being second fiddle with a zombie apocalypse).
Not that any of this changes the fact that Saeko is far more well liked. When I really think about it, Rei can't really win this. Look who she's up against.
One Strip! One Strip!![]()
Nope. I loved the dub. Captured the spirit of the show better than the original, if you ask me. Bonus points for making the cast reminiscent of actual high-schoolers instead of trained professionals.
The equally sexy if not sexier Crazy Awesome Hot Amazon Yamato Nadeshiko with Implausible Fencing Powers? Yeah, those aren't good odds.

I've got new mythological machinery, and very handsome supernatural scenery. Goodfae: a mafia web serial^^Those are quite good points - I certainly can't blame Rei for not adapting as well as the others are. And she is adapting well; it's just relative to the gun nut, the sadist close-combat master, the hardened leader, and Saya that she's not.
(I do love all of Takashi's group, incidentally.)
^The anime just took the Narm and ran with it. I've heard the English dub took that and ran with it, but ever since the Matrix Boobs I can't bring myself to watch the anime.

It's been fun.Just watch the Sarah Palin scene and you'll know what I'm talking about. It is so funny.
I've got new mythological machinery, and very handsome supernatural scenery. Goodfae: a mafia web serialSaeko's English VA was a little off at first, but by the end... *drools*
Although it was a little funny just how much the elegant Lady of War swore in the English dub. "Jesus christ" seemed to be a particular favorite of hers. Also, I was so fucking happy they kept JAWOHL!
I've got new mythological machinery, and very handsome supernatural scenery. Goodfae: a mafia web serialI dunno. Not sure if Kouta's VA was new or not, but they pulled it off like a fucking boss. Those one-liners were just perfect.
"You want something to eat? How 'bout munching on some of these? Ready, aim, DINNER TIME!"
I've got new mythological machinery, and very handsome supernatural scenery. Goodfae: a mafia web serialYeah, that did make me sad. But the best line of them all was (paraphrased), "I think he's (Shidou) kind of a douchebag." ![]()

Couldn't have said it better myself, Shizuka.
I've got new mythological machinery, and very handsome supernatural scenery. Goodfae: a mafia web serialDoesn't Hirano's VA sound delightfully insane at times? He reminds me of Ben Carmine.
I have no beard. I have no beard, and I must scream.^To be honest, I've got a major man-crush on Nobuyuki Hiyama's voice, so I've never really been that fond of Hirano's English VA...
It's been fun.Sorry to those who will get excited and think the series picked back up. It hasn't. I just finished rewatching the anime and found something that wasn't discussed earlier.
When Hirano first explained how to use the Ithaca he explained how to use it for scouting, but not for the kind of distance combat that Takashi fights when saving Rei at the fence. Takashi doesn't connect the dots that Hirano expects him to, and Hirano overreacts, telling him he doesn't know how to use the gun when he's just following Hirano's instructions. This gets completely ignored by the anime after it's over. Does that event/set of events happen in the Manga, and if so, is it ignored there as well?
I have three interpretations of those events, each one a bit grimmer than the next.
1. This is clever foreshadowing of Saya and Hirano declaring Takashi the leader since he admits when he's wrong and doesn't overreact when others do something wrong that he might actually know how to get right. Both geniuses regularly snapped at people for being "idiots." This is my favorite interpretation, since it makes the mangaka very skilled at what they do.
2. Hirano's breakdown has already started, and he can't bear to think that he forgot to tell his teammate something important. Instead he chews the man out for not figuring it out on his own. This one skips out on the fact that between where they were sitting in the Hummer and the calmness of the morning, there was just no good reason/way for Hirano to finish instructing Takashi on weapons use.
3. The worst of them: Hirano left out knowledge on purpose, in a Xanatos Gambit to make the girls of the party like him more. If Takashi had been ambushed by Them and unable to kill many without being swarmed, he'd be gone. There'd be no rivals for the girls' affection. If he lived and came back down, then the next time the team faced Them, Hirano could simply chew out Takashi just like he did, thus possibly scoring a few points in the girls' eyes. Remember, the original conversation about weapons was most likely out of the girls' earshot, since Hirano wanted to peek at them as they dressed. The only part they'd catch would be the dressing down that Hirano gave Takashi in front of the fence.

Regardless of how long it lasted, you have to admit that last bit is kind of important
