...You know, The Big Lebowski looks and sounds nothing like anyone else John Goodman has played as.
He did. Which means that nobody could reasonably be expected to recognize her. Also, I was mistaken; it wasn't Ansem the Wise who took her. That was Terranort's hypothesis as to why she disappeared. According to X's own account, it was "a man with an eyepatch" ie. Xigbar/Luxu that took her from her cell.
(Secret Ending spoilers) Yeah, he has no clue what he's doing.
Even so, Xehanort had been the one experimenting on her, so I highly doubt that Ansem SOD wouldn't have recognized her.

If Elrena was Subject X, she'd be IX (or even higher), not XII. Subject X is likely Skuld or Ava. Nameless star is either Strelitzia or Subject X.

Nameless Star is almost certainly Strelitzia - everything fits together too well for it not to be, I think. Subject X is the bigger mystery.
Ostensibly Xemnas, SOD, Ansem the Wise, and all of his apprentices should know what Mysterious Heroine X looks like.

I will say, before this game I wasn't entirely sure whether Ansem SOD had Xehanort's memories, but this cleared up that he does.
Speaking of which, unnoun, I feel like you're more or less right that Ansem SOD is kind of driven by instinct in the way most Heartless? I'm basing this mostly on how he easily he was fooled by Hayner, Pence and Olette.
Somehow Ansem SOD managed to be both dumber and smarter than I already thought he was.
God, Mushroom X is terrible. People complain about VIII but X is way worse.
I didn't think Mushroom X was so bad. The strategy I looked up said to rapidly pause to track her location and use Final Form for damage, and it only took a couple tries.
Mushroom VIII though, took me through over an hour of pure rage.
(I wonder why Mushroom X is a girl if she's based off Luxord)
I finally had an opportunity to finish this game. I really liked the game, gameplay and level design-wise. I did find the game kind of easy compared to past entries, though. I played it on Proud mode, but I still rarely died and never hit a serious wall or That One Boss where I had to stop and grind levels to proceed.
Predictably, I'm not a huge fan of the story or writing, but it had some good points.
Donald turning out to be as powerful as he did really makes me wonder what Yen Sid at 100% must be like.
Man, the final picture mission sucks. I've taken pictures of every single one of my party members but the stupid thing says I'm still missing two. I really wish the game told you what ones are missing since I'm tired of going through those long loading screens after a minute of "gameplay."
Make sure you have Rapunzel. She still counts even though she isn't by the end of her world.
I do. It was at 8 until I remembered her and Flynn. Now it's sitting at 10 and I have no idea who I'm missing.
Warning: contains spoiler from KH 3.
Yen Sid finally said his name spelled backward is Disney. I thought it meant Dreamworks.

And in addition to the duck, you know who else put in a surprisingly good showing? Captain Davy Jones-ah! He held his own against a latter-half-of-the-game party four against one, and seemed to have some command over DARKNESS! too, including a Dark Corridor-like teleportation move.
That was glorious.
I feel like I'm one of the few people who fully enjoyed KHIII and thought it had, for the most part, was a satisfying conclusion to 17 years of gaming history.
I see more positive than negative on Reddit, at least.
I did too. Just waiting for a Final Mix tier DLC for it to be even better.
And the Secret ending makes me clamour for more.
I'd have moved the Sequel Hook to the start of the next game if it was me, though.
It wouldn't be the dumbest thing in this franchise, to be frank.
