On the topic of Ride Armors, it's also really neat that by X3, X is capable of singlehandedly fighting Vile in a ride armor then him back to back, TWICE, despite the visual upgrade Vile's new Ride Armors have.
Really shows how much X has left Vile in the dust.
Seriously, look at this thing.
One of the reasons I want Maverick Hunter X3 is see Vile's reaction to how much X has grown, because that guy would have a breakdown.

"The Black Rage makes us strong, because we must resist its temptations every day of our lives or be forever damned!"It shows how much stronger X has become both physically and mentally. His combat abilities have improved so much that Vile is barely a speed bump even with Ride Armor.
The later X games really go out of their way to make the player feel as powerful as possible once they get X's full armor.

Disgusted, but not surprisedOn X's power level and potential, I do wonder how Maverick Hunter would have developed that whole plot point because it's really interesting to me that X's power is really secondary to his ability to worry and feel which is what allows X his limitless growth, that's the thing Sigma is most interested in. Zero doesn't interest Sigma the same way X does. Zero would be at best a pawn for Sigma to use, but Maverick Hunter X emphasizes that X and his empathy is the key to the evolution that Sigma believes is key to the growth of Reploids.
I guess the MHA series would have made it clear that Reploids still have limits to their sapience and free will in later installments.
"The Black Rage makes us strong, because we must resist its temptations every day of our lives or be forever damned!"A friend of mine was finally able to get me the Megaman Battle collection for my birthday last month, so I can finally start my Netbattling days in earnest! Its been a few years but I believe online pvp shouldnt be hard to find these days, and theres plenty of resources on how to deckbuild. I loved this series but ironically I only ever played Falzar and Gregar, so itll be nice to have context for everything else the franchise has to offer.
I had a personal WMG that Rock was 'gimped' during MM 9 because his main combat body was confiscated by the authorities so he had to uparmor and upgun one of his spare Rock chassis and didn't have the parts to improvise the slide or the full-spec Mega Buster.
The three finest things in life are to splat your enemies, drive them from their turf, and hear their lamentations as their rank falls!I think it’s canon that Rock removes all of his combat upgrades and copied weapons between games. The manga explains that otherwise Rock starts going mad with power. He just isn’t built to handle that many weapons permanently.

Disgusted, but not surprisedThe Archie storyline for the first game had Mega Man just go mad with power naturally instead of being a virus, to the point he was getting into a shouting match with Roll, which caused him a lot of regret and so he volunteered to have his upgrades taken from him after each adventure to prevent it.
It makes sense, he was a peaceful lab assistant bot so becoming a war machine would cause some power trips.
Yeah it was a Wily plot in the second game because he accounted for Mega Man winning again and planned accordingly.

"The Black Rage makes us strong, because we must resist its temptations every day of our lives or be forever damned!"I do suspect that explanation in the comics was a reason for why Light was worried X might go rogue and had the ethical testing done.
But I do love the old webcomics joking about how Light handled the whole thing.
"The Black Rage makes us strong, because we must resist its temptations every day of our lives or be forever damned!"In fairness, IIRC X was put into a chamber that was basically designed to prove he was safe, but doing so would take longer than Light had to live.
Leviticus 19:34I actually wonder what Light's plan was supposed to be when the 30 years of testing was done, because X ended up sealed away longer than expected.
It was really lucky that the benevolent Dr. Cain found him, not like an evil tech bro or something.
"The Black Rage makes us strong, because we must resist its temptations every day of our lives or be forever damned!"There was a fanfic where Roll was supposed to monitor X after Light’s death but some beancounter had Roll decommissioned to save money on maintenance
Ain’t it sad, fanfic Roll?

Forever liveblogging the Avengers
I was just thinking of that fic.
Yeah. It's super sad. It also makes sense. Light would want to ensure X wasn't alone, and since Rock and Blues wouldn't be there (why weren't they there in the fanfic? I can't really remember), Roll was the logical choice.
Well, I guess there was Auto, but nobody cares about Auto.
One Strip! One Strip!MS Paint Masterpieces. Started out as a silly webcomic like Bob and George, but by the time it got to Mega Man 2, it started getting serious, and even combined the plot of Mega Man 2 with the gameboy one, so Quint was involved.
I find it pretty interesting how it characterizes Dr. Wily. The webcomic's version of the character is one of the most evil versions of him, even compared to the Ruby Spears version.
"The Black Rage makes us strong, because we must resist its temptations every day of our lives or be forever damned!"

TBF, the Ride Armor is pretty much an unbeatable advantage for Vile in the first game. Even after X gets his upgrades, he still can't defeat the Ride Armor on his own. It takes Zero's sacrifice to get rid of it.
It's a bit of Gameplay and Story Integration. The few times X gets to use a Ride Armor in the first game, it's also pretty unstoppable.
