Troper Updates II, Part II

In which we get updates from the lives of tropers. Kinda like Twitter with more than 140 characters, but less than a blog or LJ.

Please refrain from excess venting in this thread. Talking about negative emotions is fine but it's best not to dwell on them for too long. TV Tropes is not suited to deal with mental health situations.

I have returned home from the class that wasn't there.

That is a very good question.

Lack of computer has led to discovering Netflix. Nice trade.

Solaris is kinda boring, though. My Western mind is unprepared for a half an hour of people talking in science fiction films.

Hey, that's exactly what happened to me! Netflix saved me from a weekend of intense boredom.

Hi, Lucky!

Juan, one of my English teachers displayed 2001 in class. He fast forwarded through most of it, it was kind of funny. And in any case, if that's the problem I'll just read the book instead. I certainly enjoyed the book of 2001.

part of the problem is that I'm watching a bit technically, not that I have film training. I think about how they must have been shooting, old tricks that didn't get used way back when the film was made, etc.

@Tzetze: Ooooh, I like doing that. But its preferable to watch in a more...superficial way the first time.

Also, I just couldn't think of any other "talk-y" sci fi films that wasn't a B-Film...

Except maybe Sunshine...

Soviet cinema in general is like that. Ivan The Terrible has minutes of Ivan surveying his army before the attack on Kazan. And hey, at least they're talking. Tarkovsky isn't always that generous.

Oh, I've probably watched some; I just forget the names.

And also, I'm finally getting to my copy of The Master And Margarita. It's not at all what I expected, but pretty enjoyable.

@rumetzen: Sorry, the film of what now?

I really should get that. My Russian teacher talked about how it got away criticizing Stalin by being so wonderfully obtuse.

Soviet cinema has that problem indeed.

Hmm, that reminds me, I need to finish Andrei Rublev at some point...

It did? According to the introduction, the author had kind of a shitty life as a theater director because he couldn't write anything without Pravda stopping him.

I played that way to slow but I think I was picking up on it finally. Buuuut in interest of an easy song should I try Breed or Polly?

Maybe Polly would be better. It's much much slower.

Come as you are would be good too. But I think Polly first.

Polly is indeed quite the easy song. Only two chord structures...
