In which we get updates from the lives of tropers. Kinda like Twitter with more than 140 characters, but less than a blog or LJ.

Please refrain from excess venting in this thread. Talking about negative emotions is fine but it's best not to dwell on them for too long. TV Tropes is not suited to deal with mental health situations.

Yeah, MIT lectures are sweet.

Oh, it's my professor. She posted that because she flaked out on us today ... I woke up for her 8:30 lecture as usual but nobody was in the classroom when I got there >:/

My roommate and I have now ceased talking to one another altogether. Is this just a college thing that sometimes happens?

@Rah That may actually be a good thing to happen...

Bleh. That wasn't fun, but it was satisfying.

Mom and dad were having a loud argument that I walked into the middle of, and dad started yelling at me, too, because the argument sorta was about me.

I responded to his shouting and bluster with silence and blunt sarcasm. I basically just waited until he shut up and went, "Cool. We done here? I'm thirsty," then left.

It wasn't an elegant solution, but I think it may have done what it was meant to: teach him that being the loudest man in the room doesn't mean he has authority, and that people respond better if he requests calmly and politely. I think this because after I'd left, he came into my room, apologized for yelling, and said what he wantted in a calmer, apologetic manner, which I rewarded by responding to positively.

Family troubles, y'know? Brutal.

My mom is the same way. I usually just talk to my more measured and calm dad if I want something. Maybe this isn't healthy, but it gets me by

@Blackmoon: Wish that worked in my family. Instead it gets my mom yelled at more.

Yes, when I respond, my mom gets yelled at more.

I don't want to talk about it.

@Moon Very mature. I respect you even more now...

And luckily, that does not come with envy. Huh, I think I'm getting better.

@ Moon: That worked? Man, when I tried that, mom made me stay until the argument was finished. Of course, it wasn't exactly yelling, but still...

@yarrun: Eh, I got lucky (sorta). I think they both knew I wasn't really part of the argument, I just had the misfortune to want a drink when it happened to be going on out in the kitchen. My parents are at least a little levelheaded when they're pissed off.

@Blackmoon: This is how it always went: ME: Could I have a couple dollars to go to the movies? MOM: No, you can't. ME: But...you said I could an hour ago. MOM slams something on the table. MOM: WELL MAYBE IF YOU WANTED THIS SHIT, YOU SHOULD GET YOUR LAZY ASS OUT OF THE HOUSE AND FIND A DAMN JOB! Mom storms out of room.

@Key: I know my difference.

Envy: Wanting what others have, and wanting to deprive them of it.

Jealousy: Wanting what others have.

I simply assumed that you meant the latter.

In any case I must head to bed soon so make your reply quick.

To jealously, I add, "and thinking you deserve it".

At least that's how I learned it.

@Keybreak: I wish. It's gotten better in recent years, though. Then again, I shouldn't be complaining. I inherited her temper. I got pissed the other day at something or other and threw my phone into a concrete wall, whereupon it messily exploded.

Yeah, I'd definitely say that jealousy is more than just "wanting what others have". That's just coveting.

@Blackmoon: Recently, my sister has been getting most of it, but she's the one that asks for it in the first place. She and my mom are the exact same person and, the kicker, *neither of them realize it!*
