I like them. At least Rubber Fruit's stuff. It's gloriously nonsensical.

I think that Art Nouveau is both my new favorite and my new least favorite art period.

Well, ignoring the architectural aspect of the period, which I'm not terribly familiar with, the visual mediums are some of the most beautiful works I've seen, though it's a period riddled with cliches.

This stems from the visual mediums being prepared primarily for popular consumption in printed media.

Y'see, Art Deco is a little too industrial for my tastes. Everything's a little too clean.

I should look up more impressionism, too. I don't know much from the period outside of the music.

^^ The art style's really neat-looking! :3 It's all visible brush strokes and bright colours. :3 It's what the aesthetic of Skyward Sword was based on! :3

Eh, it's been three years since I've been interested in a girl enough to be heartbroken, and I've already dumped that baggage in the long-deleted first incarnation of the Insecurities thread.

^I have a passing familiarity with Monet. From what I remember, it doesn't give concrete definition to any of the subject matter, and plays off of the human mind's abilities to make associations.

For some reason I associate "Art Nouveau" with ITC Korinna and ITC Benguiat.

The latter is rather ostentatious and over-the-top, so I guess it matches the aesthetic.

[up][up][up][up][up] The clean lines and sort-of industrial influences is what I like actually, though Art Noveau also has some nice stuff going on.

And impressionism (in paintings at least) is cool.

I think too much satire of the 50s has probably played a large role in my dislike for Art Deco >.>

Or maybe it's WWI satire....

This is why I need to learn more about art history!

Art Deco is really a rather popular aesthetic. I associate it with Futura.

My fondness for it makes me feel guilty, because in the arts there tends to be a lot of desire for and pressure about originality and inventiveness that does not tread too close to cliches.

I think it's still Art Deco, but I'm not sure.

Wikipedia has an automotive safety poster from the 1940s in the gallery of its Art Deco page, but I dunno for sure.
