I didn't think anyone did their own animation anymore.

Depends on what kind of animation. Is it animation based on storyboards or keyframes of animation which are then inbetweened?

Just from the top of my head, Disney, Pixar, Dream Works, Studio Ghibli...

The first Live-Action Scooby Doo movie was pretty good, the rest sucked though.
I second that. Scrappy being the culprit was unexpected and hilarious!

I really hope the live-action Cowboy Bebop movie earns a spot in this thread at some point.

Nthing Rocky And Bullwinkle and George Of The Jungle.

I'm not sure how much Looney Tunes Back In Action counts, but screw it, it's Live Action and it's an Adaptation. I loved it. Sure, the plot was kind of generic and they needed to give the human leads more character, but between the in-jokes and callbacks and Lampshade Hanging and just how insanely off-the-wall the entire thing was I couldn't help but enjoy myself. Plus, the toons themselves were front-and-center and in-character, which is more than you can say for Space Jam.

Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.

[up]That's funny, I'd argue for eliminating the human characters altogether and just focusing on the toons.

Surprised to see Speed Racer on here so often! The general consensus is that it's worse than Scooby-Doo, so I am relieved that I'm not the only one who found it excellent.

Speed Racer for the win (or should I say, "Go Speed Racer Go!"?)

Also, I recently got to see Masters of the Universe again and... yes, it deserves to be on here.

I guess what I'm wondering is, it seems that throughout history there's never been a singularly great Live Action Adaptation of a cartoon, and yet everyone seems to Follow The Leader with these films. It's one of the great Hollywood paradoxes why any studio would want to spend billions of dollars to intentionally make a bad movie.
Well, one can't expect th nonsensical wonderland of imaginative animation to mix well with the limited boredom of reality.

One of the reaasons most people go for animation over live action. In the former, one can make ANYTHING happen. Not so much with the latter. With fantasy and imagination combined with animation, the very word, "normality" does not exist.

Yep, I'm still here.

Which is exactly why they're doomed for fail and why I, despite the fact I can enjoy several LAA, think there can never possibly be a good adaptation of an WA cartoon.

Because the people in charge of these live-action "cartoony" movies are only trained in regular film, are only in it for the nostalgia, and know absolutely nothing about how cartoons work!

"That's funny, I'd argue for eliminating the human characters altogether and just focusing on the toons."

Yes, but then there'd be no point in it being live-action, so they'd make it purely animated, and there was no way that was going to happen. So long as we have to have fleshies in the cast, I'd prefer they be less bland.

Maybe you'd be less disappointed if you stopped expecting things to be Carmen Sandiego movies.

Why? What's so bad about a feature length Looney Tunes movie that only features the Looney Tunes that could make it worse that Space Jam?

[up]Full hand-drawn animation that Warner Bros doesn't have the budget for?

IIRC hand Drawn animation doesn't actually cost any more than the standard CGI cartoon. The production budget for their latest CGI film The Owls of Ga'hoole was $80 million while their last hand drawn film The Iron Giant was $70 million.

Lets see the first Scooby-Doo was pretty good and accurately gets the atmosphere of what made the show good.

Also Wild Wild West was actually really good,I don't really understand how it won the Razzies at all, becuase ya' know what it was actually funny and the characters were spot-on [except for Love-less but it's hard to go wrong with a Large Ham called Kenneth Brannagh]

Wild Wild West was originally a live action show, right?
