Jotun, for what it's worth, I almost totally agree with you RE: the first Devil May Cry's plot. It was very little but cheese. I just think the series hit its stride in the third game. Bayonetta has a lot of potential, but I didn't feel it made those points as clear as you did, partially because so much of it was either in supplementary materials or because it chose to seriously muddle the issue. There's also the simple fact that Bayonetta herself...isn't really that likable a lot of the time, and yes, she does come off occasionally as a Boring Invincible Hero.
My favorite part of the game was fighting Balder, because the fight itself was A: epic, and B: the game at least momentarily made sense. But then again, I'm more a fan of Duel Boss encounters than "fight the gigantic monstrosity" ones.
And, as previously noted, I'm really very sick of God Is Evil, especially handled badly. That's a fairly big turnoff right there.
Also, yes, Lady > Trish.

Beryl beats the fuck out of both of them in terms of heroism. Read the DMC2 novel, sometime, ya punks.
Seriously though, Lady > Trish. But only DMC3 Lady. She beats 4's Lady, just barely. They somehow managed to make her worse in the fourth game than she was in the third. At least Beryl has the good sense to thank someone after being saved.

Okay so apparently Nero being Vergil's son is an Urban Legend of Zelda. .... yet NOTHING is ever linked to, to prove that Word of God is debunking all the crap that went on in the DMC 4 novel. I hate the idea of Vergil having a kid as much as anybody, but where the hell is the proof?
I never found the idea of Nero being Vergil's son being weird or surprising myself. The first thing I said when I saw Nero interact with Dante was "Wow, Dante looks like he could be Nero's uncle." I thought it was a little obvious. I think him not being related to the Sparda twins somehow would be stranger.
Okay, this time around I managed to get to Jester, but now I hate Dante even more.
This game? I can pretty much shoot my guns forever. Dante's jump range is ridiculous compared to the range of most enemy attacks. Dante can slow his falling while shooting, you do the math. This is the master piece every beat em up since God Of War has been ripping on?
That said I kind of liked Jester. Good boss fight. But really, I can't understand why I fought him. Some games would probably be better off not having any story. Jester, was help full. That chick opened fire on me, why can't I shoot her? I hate those cut scenes, I've never seen a game try so hard to be cool and mess up so bad since Sonic Adventure 2 Battle. All this damned power that only shows up in cut scenes, at least in God Hand you actually could knock people of the horizon and deliver back kicks at the speed of sound.
The best thing I remember was icy Cerebus, and the weapon he left behind. Why couldn't the rest of the game be more like that?
Modified Ura-nage, Torture RackThe point of devil may cry is the Awesomeness Meter. Enemies are supposed to be underpowered compared to him. And jumping and shooting doesn't work that much with Lust mooks.
Also the point of Devil May Cry is to play it on Dante Must Die or above.
^ .... Freakin' LDK mode being only on PC. I wanted that difficulty level!
Eh, difference in opinion. Personally I thought "finally, Sparda didn't wait around for nearly-2000 years to have just one set of twins! Nero must be the long-lost descendant from one of Sparda's first children!" and Dante just happened to look like he could be Nero's uncle, but really would be like a great-great-great-to-the-nth-power-or-something uncle.

SWEET! wait — that's a bad thing, isn't it?
Unfortunately, yes. I was going to shamelessly promote a certain other game in this sentence, but you're better off without that. I'm just going to point out the Fridge Logic in Dante being able to suspend himself in the air while shooting, but not blowing himself across the room while firing the same shots on the ground.
Mission 16. You get to fight that chick that opened fire on you, but not before hearing her bigoted anti-demon ranting and general stubbornness about how the mission is something she has to do herself until then. Kicking her ass only leaves her "unconscious", though. She comes back later. But then I suggest you don't watch the anime or play the fourth game after this. You'll probably wish you could reach in through the screen and throttle her neck.
-still refrains from shameless other game promotion- I'd recommend playing the first DMC game but I forgot if you've already played it. And it's old anyway.
As for why the rest of the game couldn't be as awesome as the Cerberus weapon... God doesn't allow nice things. That's why.
If only people understood that when complaining about DMC2.
HK:I took similar steps while making Devil May Cry 4 as well. The first thing was to take away things girls don’t like, things that are disgusting and violent graphics or events. Also, big, buff, macho guys. There are girls that like that, but most girls like a realistic nice, sweet guy.
If we made someone like the Hulk, a big overly muscular guy, girls probably won’t be into that. If you take that character and tone him down a bit, make him more of a smart type, that little difference can change the perception of how females receive that character.
S:As a personal opinion, do you feel this is cross cultural or something just for Japan?
HK:With the characters we tested in Devil May Cry 4 the responses were very good. There wasn’t anyone saying ‘oh we wish you had this type of character’ and nobody said ‘oh we really wish you didn’t have this kind of character’. We were able to take the response from Devil May Cry 4 to fine tune the characters for this game.
The bolded part amuses me. It certainly explains why the game sucked so badly.

Well, that was certainly an interesting experience.
Having never played the series before, I picked up the PC version of Devil May Cry 4 when it was on sale on Steam a couple of weeks ago and just now got around to playing it. I didn't have high hopes; I don't know what genre you would put this kind of game in, but a PC port of a game of that nature just seems like a terrible idea.
I've only played the first two missions, but I've been pleasantly surprised so far. The frame rate and loading times have been excellent, and though the keyboard controls leave something to be desired, they're at least satisfactory, and I don't think the best designer in the world could do much about that. I'm assuming dodging is going to be more important for the later bosses? If that's the case, they might prove to be a problem, but until then, they seem sufficient.

...that's not exclusive to girls...and it has nothing to do with Even the Guys Want Him trope either.
"Every opinion that isn't mine is subjected to Your Mileage May Vary."That looks boss... but I just bought that same collection for the PS Double about a year and a half ago...
"Just wants a friend but had to give up his ding dong for it, tragic." - AngelLightStarI don't know what the general opinion of the animated series is, but "Future in My Hands" has the be the best song to come out of DMC. "Devils Never Cry" is pretty cool too but it just doesn't compare in my opinion.
So, what's your favorite song from any of the games or the animated series?
Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book!

Who's the better heroine? Lady or Trish?
