Toradora is So Okay, It's Average. None of the characters are that great - sorry, Smokie, not even Ami was really that good. Actually she kind of made me want to punch her in the face.
Other anime with internet backdraft?
Well, Lucky Star's gotten some backlash. I think that's also So Okay, It's Average, perhaps slightly above average if you're watching it dubbed.
Suzumiya Haruhi has enormous internet backdraft, but I love the crap out of it no matter what anyone says. The light novels are better, though.

Always, somewhere, someone is fighting for you. As long as you remember them, you are not alone. We start by identifying shows that brought backdraft and why. For example, Umineko No Naku Koro Ni's fanbase was split into two: between people who only saw the anime, and people who've played the games and were dissatisfied with the work of DEEN. Same goes for Higurashi.
My FF.net accountI loved Toradora because of the characters. I'm a complete sucker for romantic stories like that, after all.
Hmmm, Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha Striker S got some flak, but that was mostly because it was Overshadowed by Awesome by A's.
Join us in our quest to play all RPG video games! Moving on to disc 2 of Grandia!Oh, yeah, a good reason why is nice.
Lucky Star gets backdraft for... being otaku-bait, I guess, and not as funny as people say.
Toradora! gets backlash for exemplifying a lot of what many consider to be the problem with anime today, especially in regards to generic tsunderes.
Suzumiya Haruhi gets backlash because anything that overhyped is bound to get it from disappointed fans.
Oh, and another series with a lot of backlash? K-On!, for sure. For many people, it also exemplifies what's wrong with anime, in this case the overuse of Moe Moe. The critics will tell you that all the characters have essentially no depth besides their specific moe traits, and almost nothing interesting or funny happens besides Pandering to the Base. These accusations, if a bit exaggerated, are not unfounded, and I'd certainly agree that overreliance on moe is not doing anime a favor... but I love the show anyway because I like cute girls and I'm a huge music geek.

Always, somewhere, someone is fighting for you. As long as you remember them, you are not alone.I understand K-On! is a particular polarizing anime?
EDIT: damn you sporkaganza

You can't even write racist abuse in excrement on somebody's car without the politically correct brigade jumping down your throat! Also, Kampfer got hit by a lot of backdraft for Adaptation Decay, turning Natsuru into a romantic idiot, and too much fanservice.
My FF.net accountHehehe
But yeah, K-On! is about on the same level of controversy as Toradora! Which is a heck of a lot. Lucky Star and Suzumiya Haruhi get quite a bit, but still much less.
Always, somewhere, someone is fighting for you. As long as you remember them, you are not alone.Anyone else want to mention Evangelion? Or Gundam Seed?
My troper wall's now my troper page, yay! Come to IJBM^[1]
Suzumiya Haruhi backlash is just ridiculous.
Striker S backlash is also taken way too far.

Actually, almost anything animated by Studio DEEN:
- When They Cry - as I've mentioned above.
- Fate Stay Night - Adaptation Decay as well as picking the most boring (Fate) route.
- Seitokai No Ichizon - For allegedly being a mindless anime; of course, my personal response is that it's the Hayate No Gotoku of harem anime.
In fact, the only notable show DEEN made that didn't receive backlash was Maria Sama Ga Miteru.
My FF.net accountSeitokai No Ichizon is pretty mindless; or at least it was during the episodes I watched. I gave up on it partly for that and partly because every time it tried to be serious it fell flat on its face.
I don't think it deserves much hatred, though; it's pretty harmless IMO.

Always, somewhere, someone is fighting for you. As long as you remember them, you are not alone. While Fate Stay Night has been mentioned, should I mention "There is no Tsukihime anime."? I think that meme has gotten to the point where it is actually annoying...

My troper wall's now my troper page, yay! Come to IJBM@Spork: Underneath the mindlessness is a very beautiful message that is hard to see unless you understand the serious parts of things. For example, Ken says that he joined the council to form his harem. Actually, he does this to really make the girls happy, because he met the girls during points in the previous year where his life was down in the dumps (Kurimu in spring, Minatsu in summer, Chizuru in fall, and Mafuyu in winter). As a result, he takes upon all the council's work as a form of gratitude.
My FF.net accountOh, Shakugan No Shana generated some backlash back when it was popular.
^^^^Ah, yes, trolls. Mind if I find the actual discussion in the background more interesting?
I've actually read the first parts of the Toradora light novels. Liked it better then the anime at several key points. But the anime didn't do a bad job at all for the rest of it.
Oh, and I forgot to add: I hated Ami, especially the way how she got flip-flopped into a 'sympathic' character all of a sudden.

Bakemonogatari was a ridiculous case on /a/. There was so much trolling of the show that it wasn't even discussed at all. It wasn't even backlash anymore. It was "pretend it's the best thing ever" trolling vs. active hate trolling.
I didn't even know what the show was about because it was that devoid of any actual discussion. I didn't even know there was a male main character.

Which leads to the natural conclusion: any Rie Kugimiya loli-Tsundere barring Nagi Sanzenin, who is amusingly well received as compared to the other three.

Since I know tropers are calm andsmart enough to get into flamewars, I wanted to know your thoughts on Toradora and other shows that bring about that storm known as internet backdraft
