Underrated: Across The Universe. I'm not exactly sure how underrated it is (this wiki, for one, lists it as Better Than It Sounds) but Rotten Tomatoes liked it less that even the the Star Wars prequels, and while I'm more forgiving toward those films than many, they don't even compare. Across The Universe is in my top ten films I've ever seen, likely top five. It really sucks that Julie Taymor will probably be remembered forever for botching Spider-Man rather than making this awesome movie. As an interesting aside, my very favorite film of all is also a musical.
Overrated: To me most of what wins Oscars. They're always movies that nobody at all saw anyway. Like The King's Speech.Or The Hurt Locker. Nobody will remember those movies except for maybe to say that they won instead of [insert movie here].
Underrated: Hanna. I thought it was good, though whoever wrote the trope page might no tlike it.

Adding to that, underrated: Return Of The Jedi. This is my very favorite Star Wars film, and it just baffles me that there are some fans who do not consider it canon. I can see being uneasy about the prequels, as they're pretty thematically different from the OT (symbolism-laden space opera with roots in ancient mythology vs. big, flashy, Stuff Blowing Up action movies IN SPACE: FIGHT!), but RotJ, really? Sane Star Wars fangirl MissPadme
says the main complaint that these fans have is that RotJ is too "fairy tale" following the "dark, morally-ambiguous" TESB.
...what? Then I guess the Star Wars films end on a very downtrodden point for those people.
I think that's part of the appeal for them, actually. They'd rather have a DEEP, MATURE Downer Ending than a "fairy-tale ending."

Claiming that nobody saw The King's Speech is simply false.

The Worldwide Gross is listed as $427,347,139. Or to put it another way, nearly half a billion dollars.
I just don't get any of that...the whole trilogy was basically a fairy tale and I've never thought of ESB as "morally ambiguous."
Overrated...I can't really think of any.
Underrated...I'm going to say Spider Man 3 and The Matrix Reloaded. They weren't THAT bad.
Continuously reading, studying, and (hopefully) growing.overrated: too many to list
underrated: Scott Pilgrim, Titan AE, Empire Records,

Untitled Power Rangers StoryScott Pilgrim is overrated. It's just The Spirit as a comedy with a lead that people stopped caring about long ago.
More Buscemi at http://forum.reelsociety.com/Overrated: Batman Begins (hell, the whole Dark Knight series)
Underrated: The Rocketeer

I'd say Burton's Alice In Wonderland is underrated and Inception is overrated
Overrated: Tootsie (lol crossdressing!), The Secret Of NIMH (got all its good ideas from the book and made them bland and trite), Babe Pig In The City (mixed reviews are too good for it).
Underrated: Agree about Rot J and Scott Pilgrim.
Overrated: Avatar (Duh), The Expendables (The mixed reviews it got are too good), Aliens
Underrated: Clue. Bon Cop Bad Cop (Coz im biased!), Loaded Weapon (National Lampoon's parody of Lethal Weapon)

Another to add to Underrated after seeing it this night.
Hitchikers Guide To The Galaxy, the 2005 version. Huge fan of the books, never read the radio series, but I honestly found it rather entertaining and funny. I'd heard bad things about it, but I'm really not sure why it was generally disliked.
"Delenda est." "Furthermore, Carthage must be destroyed." -Common Roman saying at the end of speeches.
The people who hated it were expecting a faithful adaptation to the books despite the fact that Adams didn't like doing those. The final script to the film even included elements from Adams' earlier drafts (which weren't completely faithful to the book due to the as-mentioned reason).

Oh god, the "but it's not faithful to the book/tv series/comic" crowd. That's a rant for another topic, I suppose. The only times I'm irritated by it is when a work completely misses the point of the original, which doesn't happen that often.

I agree about Nosferatu; there are plenty of legitimately still-creepy silents like Caligari, but that wasn't one of them.
Overrated: Spider-Man 2 and Toy Story 2. Both were fairly flat sequels that got heralded as incredible masterpieces.
Underrated: Romeo + Juliet. Tried to be artistic and ended up a huge pile of YMMV, but surely attempting to be artistic is better than just sticking with formula. Also better than most modern Shakespeare attempts, like A Midsummer Night's Dream.
