Not a single one was cut - they were all moved to their relevant namespace (fan fiction, literature, etc)
Would you kill your best friend, can you save yourself? This appears to have been done without any official blessing, as I don't see anything about the site policy for Troper Works having changed.
The discussion is in this thread
.
The idea behind the move is that for the purposes of namespacing, it shouldn't matter whether or not the creator has an account on TV Tropes. The index is still there for people who want to browse troper-created works, but the word from on-high is that the identity of the author does not matter.
I'm bad, and that's good. I will never be good, and that's not bad. There's no one I'd rather be than me.Considering it's Fast Eddie who made the move, I'd say it's as official as it needs to be.
Flanker, there was consensus within the thread in question, but in the end it was admin fiat. We have that here. This is not a democracy.
For the hard of hearing: All the pages are still there. They were moved to their proper namespace by type/genre. Troper Works is abolished as a namespace.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"@ Addy the Pawn Slayer:
Ah, I can see that now. Although there's no longer a Troper Works/Peacemaker page in the "TroperWorks" directory, for example, there IS now a Literature/Peacemaker page in the "Literature" directory, with the same contents as the old page.
Unfortunately, this means there are a LOT of old Wiki links that are going to have to be updated now....
Well, it seems that people are faster typers than I am because by the time I had finished typing everyone had corrected my misconception, so it's turned into a mad scramble to correct myself before I look like I have no reading comprehension at all.
So, here's my (final) thoughts:
What the admin says, goes.
Locking you up on radar since '09There was consensus in the thread anyway.
All that's gone wrong is that the original pages weren't redirected to the new ones (I think Eddie did it as a bulk job) hence all the red links.
Would you kill your best friend, can you save yourself?I just fixed the Troper Works page. If you're missing a works page, try there first.
Also, since they're all made by tropers, my general thought is that rather than have me go through every related to on all the old links, have each person manage their own work. After all, it ought to be on the watchlist of at least the person whose work it is. They can fix links.

BTW, I'm a chick.Of note: unless the database was specifically updated for it, the moved pages will no longer be on anyone's watchlists.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"There are quite a few tropers who have left, and it wouldn't surprise me if some of them have Troper Works.
We also could really use a search-and-replace program that can't tie up the server—it executes only a few iterations, and then loops while busy. And can be halted easily. I know it's pretty easy to pull that type of code off in Java Script.
Everyone Has An Important Job To DoBut does "namespace by type/genre" really make sense as a rule? Some of those works were formerly in the Main namespace, and I was confused by the apparent disappearance of Adventurers! that I took on the tedious task of redoing the page's markup, not realizing that the original had been moved into the Webcomic namespace (without so much as a notice on "Recent cuts"). I almost did the same for Antihero For Hire before I realized what was going on. Now, does it really make sense as a rule that pages shouldn't be in the Main namespace if they happen to be written by one of our contributors?
And now they're all back in the Troper Works namespace?
Did we change our minds here? (when i say "we" and "our" i am referring to the people who decide these things, none of whom are actually me)
disregard this i have no idea what i'm talking about

BTW, I'm a chick.

Since last night, nearly ALL of the pages listed in the "Original Works" section of the Troper Works index have been DELETED. Most of the previously-functioning Wiki Links in that section are now red.
Was there a discussion about this on the Cut List? The only mention in the Troper Works index discussion itself is of entires being moved from one category to another, not about the underlying pages being deleted entirely!
