[up] I'm not sure whether to go for top or bottom. Bottom would probably require an increased mana cost.

I don't quite see the reasoning behind that, unless you're given a choice. If you have to put it at the bottom whether you like it or not, you might be burying the card you needed, and you don't even have the benefit of knowing what'll come up in your next draws.

This "faculty lot" you speak of sounds like a place of great power...

It'd probably be easy to get lands with that card, too.

Would it be worth it to say "You may play that card this turn" as well?

[up] For one blue mana? No. (To put it another way: if it's cast without paying the mana cost, Jace the Mind Sculptor suddenly becomes even more broken, and you don't need to specifically write in if you do have to play the mana cost, because that's just...playing a card.)

Also:

Devouring Stroganoff (3BB)
Creature - Horror
3/3
Flying, trample
Sacrifice a creature: regenerate ~.
Whenever a creature dies, put a +1/+1 counter on ~.
Sacrifice ~: target player loses life equal to ~'s toughness. You gain life equal to the amount of life lost in this way.
To this day, stories of the Mad Chef of Nephalia are whispered for fear of attracting the attention of his greatest monster.

Future's Shadow 2UU

Creature — Illusion

When you cast Future's shadow, reveal cards from the top of your library until you reveal a creature card. If you do, Future's Shadow enters the battlefield as a copy of that creature, except it's an illusion in addition to it's other types, and it gains "When this creature becomes the target of a spell or ability, sacrifice it." Put the last revealed card into your hand and the rest on the bottom of your library.

Mmm... for five mana, I can steal an opponent's creature, and I have the option (depending on the board state) of picking the big fat bruiser that wants to bash my skull in.

On the other hand, I could theoretically design around this card, resulting in a deck with only a few very juicy but very expensive creatures, and use this to get them on the board for only six mana.

I balanced it out a bit by reducing it's mana cost by one and having it be sacrificed if targeted by a spell or ability.

Hmm, considering how broken this would be with Emrakul or Progenitus, I think I should balance it out a bit more.

Here's the revised version:

Future's Shadow 2UU

Creature — Illusion

When you cast Future's shadow, reveal cards from the top of your library until you reveal a nonlegendary creature card. If you do, Future's Shadow enters the battlefield as a copy of that creature, except it's an illusion in addition to it's other types, and it gains "When this creature becomes the target of a spell or ability, sacrifice it." Put the last revealed card into your hand and the rest on the bottom of your library.

0/0

Basically, it can't copy legendary creatures now, so no Emrakul or Progenitus.

Spiteful Wishgranting B
Sorcery
Search your library for a card, put that card in your hand, then shuffle your library. An opponent chooses one - destroy target creature of that opponent's choice; or discard a card at random from your hand; or you lose 4 life.

EDIT: Deleted "creature you control" from the first option, since that could make for fun multiplayer politics.

A tutor for one black mana is pretty damn broken no matter the side effects, I think.

If it cost 1B instead of B, it would be more balanced. Worse than Demonic Tutor, sure, but Demonic Tutor is also really damned broken.

Aldheim Since: Sep, 2010

I also think the card is probably neater if it's "tutor, then discard a card at random."

There exists a tutor for one red mana that is, aside from color, strictly better than Spiteful Wishgranting and not banned or restricted in any format. I'm not sure how big an advantage the color is, but I don't think it can be that huge.

EDIT: and which is, in fact, exactly what Aldheim suggested.

You can come back from reading the Twilight series, but if you're reading it for some reason besides curiosity, there's something wrong going on.

Anyway! Pony spells. I've noticed we haven't been doing non-creature ones.

Want It Need It 2RR

Enchantment- Aura

Enchant permanent

Enchanted permanent has "Creatures your opponents control attack you each turn if able. When damage is dealt to you, that source's controller gains control of this permanent."

Gemfinding 2R

Sorcery

Search your library for up to two artifacts with CMC 0, reveal those cards, and put one onto the battlefield tapped and the other into your hand. Then shuffle your library.

Failsafe 1WUU

Instant

Exile all other spells on the stack and exile all enchantments.

I know Gemfinding has a more blue effect, but I'm going with the Time Spiral block school of thought on this. That is, the color choice fits the flavor of what the card represents more than what the mechanic is. Failsafe is intentionally powerful, but I don't think that price will ever allow it to be broken in eternal formats. Want It Need It might need a little bit of tweaking since I can imagine it having an impact on several formats, especially EDH. Is the flavor less strange if I make it say nonland permanent instead?

[up] I'd limit WINI to either artifacts only or artifacts and creatures. It'd be a bit hard to cast it on something that wasn't actually there, after all. (Seriously, try and imagine Twilight casting WINI on a journey such as Quest for the Gemblades and see what happens to your imagination.)

[up] "I really love its, um, gemblades!"

Hmm, pony-related noncreature spells. I'm just sort of randomly throwing ideas together based on events in The Elements of Harmony here.

Element of Laughter (3)
Legendary Artifact - Equipment
Equipped creature gets +1/+1. If equipped creature is red, creatures your opponents control with intimidate may be blocked as though they didn't have intimidate.
Equip {3}

Element of Loyalty (3)
Legendary Artifact - Equipment
Equipped creature gets +1/+1. If equipped creature is white, if a spell or ability would cause a creature you control to be controlled by another player, counter it.
Equip {3}

Element of Kindness (3)
Legendary Artifact - Equipment
Equipped creature gets +1/+1. If equipped creature is green, whenever a creature an opponent controls blocks or becomes blocked by a creature you control, that opponent may pay {2}. If he or she doesn't, prevent all combat damage that would be dealt to and dealt by that creature this turn..
Equip {3}

Element of Generosity (3)
Legendary Artifact - Equipment
Equipped creature gets +1/+1. If equipped creature is blue, whenever a creature you control blocks, put a +1/+1 counter on it.
Equip {3}

Element of Honesty (3)
Legendary Artifact - Equipment
Equipped creature gets +1/+1. If equipped creature is white, creatures you control have vigilance.
Equip {3}

Element of Magic (4)
Legendary Artifact - Equipment
Equipped creature gets +1/+1.
{3}: Exile target permanent. Activate this ability only if permanents named Element of Magic, Element of Honesty, Element of Generosity, Element of Honesty, Element of Kindness and Element and Laughter are attached to creatures you control*

.
Equip {2}

Ugh. A 6 card combo with legendary permanents.

I don't want to get anywhere near that...

I'd maybe do something like...

Elements of Harmony- 4

Legendary Artifact

Tap six creatures you control: Exile target permanent.

No... but then it's weird that Celestia could wield them...

Tap creatures you control with total CMC 8 or more?

that creature doesn't deal or receive combat damage that turn
"prevent all combat damage that would be dealt to and dealt by that creature this turn"

Basing this on the wording of Ghostly Possession.
