Which is exactly why the "Wait, what?" and Hottip suggestion are pretty terrible for captions. The lampshade hanging in the former is relatively useless unless you can already notice the joke, and even still it's pretty lame. And the Hottip explanation is very annoying and does nothing except try and make up for the uselessness of the "Wait, what?".

You are displaying abnormally high compulsions to over-analyze works of fiction and media. Diagnosis: TV Tropes Addiction.Another prove have with the Wait, What caption is that its not even that funny. All it really does is show how the caption writer was also confused when picking the image, and that's it. It's not humorous or cleverly written and it doesn't really help explain the image at all.
Kind of a waste of a perfectly good caption.
You are displaying abnormally high compulsions to over-analyze works of fiction and media. Diagnosis: TV Tropes Addiction.I find it funny. I do not find "Ripped from tomorrows headlines!" funny or less confusing, actually I find it even more confusing. "Wait, what?" acknowledges the confusion that raises with usually Temporal Paradox. When I encounter Temporal Paradox "Wait, what?" is my usualy reaction, unless I am following the person who causes the paradox.
