Barkey: I like him to but I think he sets himself up for disappointment too easily.
I actually felt kind of bad for Londo in the last episode I watched. Where he killed his dueling friend. His ambitions make him blind to what is going on around him and he cheerfully skips down the road to damnation thinking all is dandy. This is why I like Vir. He tries to help Londo not be such an asshat but Londo keeps on doing his own thing.
Who watches the watchmen?I think he is referencing the way that people who celebrate a popular September holiday might go about acquiring media. Although I'd be lying if I said I was completely guilt free in such matters, it is a method I generally try to avoid and would not encourage.

172: The Centauri Republic might not be totally in decline, but it's definitely stopped expanding. Once, they were the top dog (with the possible exception of the Minbari - the Parthains to the Cantauri "Rome", if you will) in this section of the galaxy and now they're forced to deal with the upstart Earth Alliance and the League of Non-Aligned Worlds, of all things.
Their frontiers have been fixed for a generation, the ambitions of the great noble Houses have turned inwards and worst of all, one of their subject worlds managed to successfully throw off the yoke of Imperial power.
The fact that it was the Earth Alliance, rather than the Centauri Republic, who moved in to defeat the Dilgar was probably a defining moment in their reputation. Like Cleon I's Galactic Empire in Foundation, the end is there to be seen, but only for those who are looking.

I'm pretty sure that Londo also mentions that they've gone from colonizing over 100 worlds to about a dozen. It may be informed and offscreen, but it's quite a decline.
| Wandering, but not lost. | If people bring so much courage to this world...◊ |They are alone. They are a dying people. We should let them pass.
Boy Scouts ½: the most gratuitous self insert fic, ever! Read, if you dare!I found it very jarring how Delenn's relationship to Sinclair was transferred to Sheridan. Especially if you take in account that one time she "married" him in that religious ceremony. And now she's kissing Sheridan, and it rustles my jimmies.
I mean, she's a great girl and all, but she borders on Purity Sue at times, doesn't she?
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.Who knows what may have developed if Sinclair had stayed on the show? But in light of how things ended up playing out, I choose to believe that, to paraphrase Freud, sometimes a purity ceremony is just a purity ceremony. As far as the whole "marriage" thing, even if the ceremony can sometimes have that meaning, in this case it was just Sakai teasing Sinclair. Besides which, it would be a bit squicky when you consider Sinclair is Delenn's ancestor! (That's a somewhat major spoiler, so unless you're mid way through season four, read it at your own risk!)
As for her being a Purity Sue... Don't worry. Delenn has one or two skeletons that will eventually come out.
Boy Scouts ½: the most gratuitous self insert fic, ever! Read, if you dare! She can be a worrier at times, I'll grant you that. Of course, she has a lot going on of great importance that could have tragic consequences should it not go well, so can you really blame her? Anyway, you think she frets, just wait! There will come a time when she has to help someone else to stop worrying so much!

Boy Scouts ½: the most gratuitous self insert fic, ever! Read, if you dare!Sheridan is in many ways a "replacement" for Sinclair because Sinclair's actor had to leave the show; it's amazing that the change works as well as it does, but there are a number of minor things that don't quite feel right as a result. One of the ones that bugs me is that Sheridan was chosen to run the station because the people in charge thought he was a good soldier and could be relied upon to do what they wanted. But then we find out that Sheridan "collects" secrets and conspiracy theories and is almost instinctively suspicious of authority - which isn't at all the kind of people the higher-ups would want in charge. After years of service in the military and a high position, you'd think someone would have made a note of those tendencies.
I like Delenn, but she more than any other Minbari does come across as Our Elves Are Better / Can't Argue with Elves - I think that's a more apt trope than Purity Sue - fairly frequently. MAJOR spoiler: It's rather aggravating, to me, that someone who has committed genocide is frequently treated as the moral core and moral/spiritual spokesperson of the show. I understand that she deeply regrets it, but it seems like something that should kind of disqualify you from being able to lecture other people about ethics.

I never found Sheridan to be a, shall we say, consistent character. That's okay, it makes him more interesting. He's the strapping Gary Cooper hero with enough of a violent edge to make him unpredictable.
Admittedly, if we're ranking the best characters on the show, I think Sheridan falls low on that list.
I'm a skeptical squirrelLondo and G'Kar steal every scene they're in. Vir and Lenier are also awesome. Garibaldi's a lot of fun. Ivanova's at her funniest when she goes Cut Your Heart Out With A Spoon.
But really, Londo/G'Kar 4 evah.
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.Heck, Handle, I don't think you've seen the half of it yet. Where abouts are you? Late season three?

Well, if you really want major Centauri dickishness, in early season four you'll get to meet the current Emperor, Cartagia.
In other news, I just blew my own mind when I read that Bill Mumy (Lennier) is half of the duo Barnes & Barnes, singers of the Dr. Demento classic Fish Heads
