I'm not seeing any connection beyond being in Nevada and wearing a trenchcoat, though. It would be neat, but seems like a little bit of a leap based on that brief moment of video. Though if we're jumping to conclusions anyways, it seems just as likely that he'd be a New California Ranger instead, what with their flag being right behind him.

I kinda suspected Vegas would still be up and running. From the trailer, it didn't look like a devastated or abandoned city at all, with all of its lights still on.

Fallout? Las Vegas?? Obsidian???

I can't believe I didn't see this trailer earlier. This could be very good, very good indeed.

We got a handfull of screens. Loooks veerrrryy similar to fallout 3. What's up with that wig-wearing supermutant? They get jealous over our luxurious head-mops?

It also seems to include quick-companion orders. Oh thank god. And the new golf club's special ability is called "Fore!" and will probably be a Groin Attack. And Dogmeat's back. I hate that canine. Post-Broken Steel almost all my characters where forced to find new and inventive ways of getting him killed. to free up a party slot. Mutt could survive a bloody mini-nuke to the face and keep on truckin'.

He'd want you do be doing something awesome right now.

Well, I'm amazed at what they CAN do. It is based off the Fallout 3 engine, so aethestical looks can't vary that much. Seeing the change in enemies and the Geckos make me feel happy though.

I just recently became a fan of the Fallout series (and by Fallout series I mean Fallout 3 /newfag) And New Vegas looks so awesome. I just don't know when I can buy it, seeing as I am saving up money to buy a PS 3 for myself.

Game over yeaaaaaah!

another thing about the health thing:

Fact: Sleeping in a bed gets you full health and heals all cripples

Fact: Finishing the "Power of Atom" quest gets you a free bed.

So, basically, if you can fast travel, you can get full health.

...cheap

But, when I first played Fallout 3 I was always getting low healyh and being unable to fast travel. Taht was annoying.

Fast travel and beds aren't really the problem; stimpacks, which you can use in the middle of a firefight, are.

Honestly, I kinda wish they'd bumped the scarcity of healing stuff, and made it harder to heal limb injuries.

I seem to remember reading something that gave the impression that crotch shots are back, though they may have just been talking about the golf club thing. I'm sure shooting children is still out, but that was really only annoying because of little lamplight.

Well hopefully we can still sell every last one of the kids into slavery. A Fallout game without a potential for extreme cruelty to children just would not be complete.

One thing I would like to see is the conversations becoming more natural and smooth. Ever since I played Mass Effect 1 and 2, the conversation mode in Fallout 3 felt incredibly limited and wooden.

@Eric DVH

Unless you were very injured, the AP cost compared to using an offhand stimpack wasn't that much. It also felt better supported (You had perks for quicker inventory use) and if you had to heal in combat, you were likely dead already. Fallout 3 had no cost at all and combat is much less lethal.

Anyways, as Obsidian has made two of the better cRPGs this gen (Mask of The Betrayer and The Sith Lords), I'm looking forward to this (after a few fan patchs at least)

Stimpak use costed 2 AP, inventory access 4 AP, each stimpak healed about 12 HP, and many character builds had well over 80 HP midway through the games. Healing was completely broken (among other things, being able to slip into your power armor and reload your weapon in the heat of combat with no additional penalty… While gobbling up a half dozen chems) if you had enough stimpaks in your pack, which is why I doubt anyone actually used super stims for anything other than assassinations.

It feels cheezy whenever I can leap back from the brink of death with impunity simply by being able to open my inventory in a game, there should always be some penalty for using items. Summoner is a good example of a game that could be practically ruined by this if the player didn't exercise self-restraint.

Oh, and definitely agreed about the patch/fanmod thing. Games by BIS alumni tend to improve with age, not that that's a bad thing.

The hinted at Hardcore Mode for New Vegas sounds very interesting. What they've confirmed so far (going off of memory, as I can't remember where I saw the article):

1.) Ammo will have weight

2.) Stimpacks will not heal instantly, but instead will heal you over time.

3.) Crippled limbs can only be healed by a Doctor, not by stimpacks or sleep.

edit: 4.) Drinking water will be required for survival. I think some kind of progressive stat loss occurs if you go too long without drinking. (Bryn reminded me of this with his below post)

Basically... things that I'd wished were available in Fallout 3.

Meeble, do you have Fallout 3 on PC? Changes along those lines crop up in quite in a fair few mods.

Probably the best way to add it is FWE, which makes a lot of other good changes and incorporates a whole bunch of other mods. Here are some others...:

Dealing with medicine: Amplified Crippled Effects + Triage

Real Injuries (see also Real Injuries: Primary Needs for food/drink/sleep)

Ammo weight: Ammo weight Displayed ammo weight (requires a few other mods) DAV - weighted Ammo Weight Ammo weight extended for CALIBR

^^ Sadly enough, I have it on the Xbox.

At the time I bought it, my wife and I were sharing a PC. And I figured an Xbox addiction would cause little strife with her ongoing World of Warcraft addiction. I have regretted it, though, since learning of so many good mods available for the PC version.

Same situation with Left 4 Dead. =/

The Fallout 3 engine does suck, and pretty bad too. It's the same one they were using to make Morrowind. Terrible physics and lighting.

Anyway I am really looking forward to this game and I hope they at least try to tweak it enough that it doesn't look and play exactly like FO 3. Fix the terrible AI and animations first, and that will be a huge improvement. The writing was pretty bad too but I am hoping since Obsidian has shown they have the ability to produce at least decent writing (rather than FO 3's, which was terrible), that it will be palatable.
