Also, said kneecapped Powder Ganger is surprisingly ambulatory if you provoke him.

I gave him the morphine anyway.

Even if the dude hid in the shed, the Legion did do a number on the place and his friends.

[up][up]In fairness to him, you can also uppercut the crucified people and then they'll immediately just start walking around unharmed. Just like in real life.

I don't use Med-X, so he can have all of it that he wants.

These days, I don't even bother talking to Vulpes. Shoot first, ask questions never. I assume that my Courier knows who the Legion are, what they look like, and that they're bad news.

My first time with Vulpes was so fucking embarrassing. I managed to kill all the fresh-faced cadets accompanying him, but let the man himself slip away. I also got somewhat eaten by dogs.

I made up for it later in the Vegas strip, of course.

Being shot in the head can have some mild side-effects to amnesia.

My Courier was A Tale of Two Wastelands so he actually DIDN'T know what the Mojave was.

I do love Vulpes reaction if you have the Horrifying Presence Perk.

Has anyone here ever actually helped the Powder Gangers both survive the Prison attack and take over Goodsprings, if only for variety on a repeat playthrough? I did that in my Kill NCR run and even became Idolized by them {Through a combination of those actions, healing Boxcars and saving those captive Powder Gangers from the Legion}. As to be expected you don't get much for it, but it's a neat little thing to do when playing as an Evil Courier.

For those who happen to be fans of both the Hearts of Iron series and Fallout: NV, have I got a treat for you:

Old World Blues translates Fallout to grand strategy

World Blues: Steam Workshop

Only complaint I have is regards to the title itself. They mention the DLC name for the Big Mountain research facility, which implies all of the SCIENCE! insanity would've somehow made it into the game. Yet it seems to mostly focus on the major conflict between Caesar's Legion and the NCR. Not a bad idea in itself; the few remaining denizens of Big MT were nowhere near sane and primarily focused on obscure goals that had little in common with conquest, but that odd cut ending of theirs where they began to invade the Mojave and surrounding areas with all kinds of insane super-science weapons would've been hella-neat.

But otherwise? From what Rock-Paper-Shotgun has indicated, it's a surprisingly well-fleshed out title that captures the sometimes odd and goofy nature of the Fallout universe's factions strengths and weaknesses. Vault Dwellers start out with strong technology bonuses and well-fortified locations, but are paranoid of outsiders and can barely afford to lose troops in conflict, New Vegas itself has the potential to become an economic and political powerhouse but needs to form alliances with the local tribes first and also activate its hidden Securitron army, Caesar's Legion is essentially in a constant state of war with tons of good quality troops but terrible tech and poor diplomatic ties, etc. There's a ton of other tribes, raider factions and other smaller groups too, but so far they've only fleshed out the major players.

Downloading now. Wish they'd include the MI Dwest Brotherhood, since they're alive in canon in some capacity and they're my favorite chapter. That being said, I'm sure there's ways to convert the Western Brotherhood into what I love about the Midwest ones anyway.

Fun mod so far. I'm the Western Brotherhood of Steel, and I've united Arroyo and the Shi peacefully through Focuses. Beyond that I've geared up to move north while keeping most of my forces in my territory to keep the NCR from getting big eyes.

There's something I'm curious about: Now, I absolutely love playing the Wild Card route because of the incredible amount of freedom you get with the route, the way it makes you feel like a badass, and how you can manipulate one of the three main factions for your own ends and then betray them whenever you want. But in terms of it being a good outcome for Vegas, I'm not really seeing it. Sure, it's still better than the Legion winning, but it's basically just paving the way for an anarchist mess run by someone who probably doesn't know what they're doing, and I can't help but think that Oliver may have had a point when he tells you how hard it's going to be making Vegas Independent. So for those who feel that the Wild Card route really is the best hope for the Mojave, care to explain why you feel this way?

The Wild Card ending is the best hope for the REGION as opposed to just New Vegas as a whole.

The big problem with the New California Republic is brought up if you talk to the Doctor at the Airport where he says that NCR is suffering a food crisis. It's overexpanded with too many mouths to feed and it is continuing to expand Eastward. If it successfully annexes the Mojave, then it will suddenly permanently share a border with the Legion and have to defend against them or their fallout when they collapse. They need to garrison the border, pay the troops, provision them, and keep the region occupied ala Iraq while it is suffering from its own immense internal problems. That includes while trying to incorporate all the independent communities of the Mojave into NCR.

The Independent ending or House ending offers the New California Republic an immense reprieve. It adds an army of hundreds (if not thousands) of Securitrons The Securitrons are a payless military force which is entirely capable of patrolling the Mojave border and protecting against Caesar's incrusions as well as dealing with internal security. NCR will not have to shell out a single cap and they can use the resources to build up food sources as well as other infrastructure to protect themselves.

The Independent ending also benefits the region because New Vegas is perfectly functional as a self-sustaining city state tied economically to the towns around it. Its an economic center that has food grown around it but also plenty of economic ties with NCR. NCR doesn't need to rule New Vegas to gamble there as well as get fresh-water and electricity from Hoover Dam as Mister House supplies it. In short, NCR is going to get all the benefits of New Vegas via trade which it would have gotten via conquest.

In terms of geo-politics, the Independent ending also prevents things from getting worse in the region as well. The communities surrounding New Vegas are mostly ambivalent about NCR at best with the Kings, Strip tribes, Brotherhood of Steel, and Boomers all being suspicious of NCR. With an Independent Vegas, none of these groups are going to go to war with NCR or need to be subdued. An Indepedent Vegas can result in a Paladin of the Brotherhood of Steel or at least someone allied with them controlling the Securitron army, preventing the need to massacre them with Mister House or the inevitable breakdown of relations with the Bo S and NCR. The Boomers, certainly, aren't joiner types.

Maybe in a generation or two, ties between the groups will allow a united Mojave to work together but first there needs to be a stable economy and ties between the communities.

The NCR's internal corruption is the cause of both the food crisis and the expansion. The brahmin barons have grabbed up farmland to use for raising brahmin, which provide less food than crops. The NCR is pushed to expand to get more farmland, which is bought by the brahmin barons, rinse and repeat.

Depending on the intelligence of the Courier and the use of the Big Empty's super-tech, the Mojave could actually become a food supplier in the region.

Especially if they do have the tech to grow crops in the desert.

Oh hey we have a dedicated thread for this game.

Starting a new game for the first time but my PS 3 is modded so I can't patch it. How often is it going to crash?

A lot. FNV isn't terribly stable, in part due to being based on the same engine as FO3, which isn't terribly stable to begin with.

For extra fun, play on Linux and use WINE to sort of, but not perfectly, fake being on Windows. Two layers of glitchy, crashy fun.

Though, also, as a heads up, IIRC, the PS 3 version is the least stable version prior to mods or running on platforms that aren't actually supported, due to the PS 3's unorthodox architecture.

I had an amusing thing happen in my recent NV playthrough. I was at the climax of the Omerta's questline, and I decided to have my companions wait in the stairway instead of bringing them with to confront the Omerta bosses, to make things a bit more interesting. Because of this, Big Sal and Nero actually put up more of a fight this time instead of dying instantly, to the point that the fight ended up being taken out of the room and right on the bar area outside of the room. But because the game registered only the bosses as enemies, a nearby Omerta thug nearby joined in and helped me and Cachino take them both out. I guess he must have wanted revenge on the bosses for not paying him enough or something.tongue

You see, Cass is a true blue friend. It is like how some people IRL are conservative but have liberal friends. She was pro-NCR but she still helped me win the Dam for the Legion. She moved away after that, though....

In any event I think I am finally getting my gaming PC next month! I am so fucking excited to do Tale of Two Wastelands. I still love FO 3 and with the Ties That Bind mod I have wanted to play forever, I expect to love it even more.

I'm writing a entire Fanfic for New Vegas based on one of my playthroughs, with artistic license to make the story more interesting.

What has this game done to me?
