The 3DS had an excellent library, and when you combine it with backwards compatibility allowing access to the DS’s also-excellent selection of games, the options are amazing.
The 3DS was an excellent handheld, especially for its time period (with most casual gamers switching to mobile). I'd say it's within the top 5 handhelds.
I'm still buying games for it, mostly rpgs. I think I'll be doing so for... quite some time. Between this and the Switch, I shall have basically no money for real life.
Necro for a soon to be outdated system, but my New 3DS battery life's all out of wack. Haven't used it in a while, but the system shuts down as if its battery life is zapped, yet the battery indicator is usually full a few minutes prior. I hope my battery isn't fried.
My vacationing father is on vacation, and he has the screwdrivers small enough to open the battery port with him. I hope I just have to pop the battery out and then put it back in.
I’m still working on fixing the hinge on mine 3DS.
It’s been broken for nearly a year now, and I have been unable to finish a lot of the games I still have to play.
Good news is I’ve finally dealt with the bulk of the crap preventing me from fixing it, and will finally be able to take care of it soon.
Gonna be nice, though I missed out on a lot of stuff I’d have liked to get. My own stingyness with money was also a factor.
One Strip! One Strip!Yeah, I too blame my stinginess towards money on why I sat on the 3DS for so long...
(Although if Nintendo brings those 3DS Kirby games, A Link Between Worlds, and Kid Icarus: Uprising to the Switch in the future, I'll consider the not buying 3DS to be worth it.)
Bump.
Believe it or not, a 3DS physical release of games by indie studio Atooi is coming soon via Limited Run Games.
For context, Atooi are the guys behind Mutant Mudds, Mutant Mudds: Super Challenge, Bomb Monkey, Xeodrifter, and Chicken Wiggle.
And if this release turns out well, we could see more physical 3DS games from Limited Run...

On today's episode of Nintendo leaks, the 3DS source code has leaked.
The biggest news to come out of this is that a nVidia 3DS was a thing and the Switch OS is based on the 3DS one.
"We're all paper, we're all scissors, we're all fightin' with our mirrors, scared we'll never find somebody to love."Soooo...apparently Netflix is still online on the 3DS
I can't say goodbye to yesterday…End of an era! It never quite reached the extraordinary highs of the original DS but it's probably the system I love best. So many great games.
I never got a 3DS...
Shit! I have got to get mine fixed somehow. I didn't have the money, and now I can't move around to send it off because I don't have a car and it's a damned pandemic!
I didn't count on things taking this long.
One Strip! One Strip!Super glad I replaced mine last year.
Picked a new one (relatively) recently.
Any idea on how long they maintain certain functions?

‘My ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.’I mean, this is just production ending. Wii U ended production a couple years ago and none of their services have really ended yet. All of the Wii’s services didn’t until last year.
With the pandemic it'll likely to harder to pick up a 3DS console from now on (barring second hand consoles).
Here in Australia at least it costs almost RRP for one now because the stock was totally wiped out in the first wave lockdown back in March.
So the sub 100 prices they had in the holiday sales last year are unlikely to come back.
I don't know if that maps to the US though, since they always tend to have more stock.
"But if that happened, Melia might actually be happy. We can't have that." - Handsome RobWell, I finally caved and ordered a New 2DS XL. Didn't want to wait until they become truly crazy expensive. Gonna have to use screen protectors for once since I'll want to take good care of this one.
I missed the part where that's my problem. Is that in the US?
I guess it's because of lower stock here in Australia but since last year you can't get new consoles in stores anymore.
Although places like EB Games still have loads of secondhand ones.
I kind of regret not buying a spare when they dropped really low in the end of year sales before lockdowns, but hindsight is 20:20.

"But if that happened, Melia might actually be happy. We can't have that." - Handsome RobYeah, but even here new ones are getting pretty rare at this point. Definitely payed more than if I'd have ordered a few months back. Kinda wish I did since I'd have preferred a New 3DS, but that's just too expensive for my tastes now.
But whatever. Access to the Virtual Console, and DS and 3DS exclusives, is worth it for me, even if I'm missing out on the 3D gimmick. Should be able to get a good deal on used games, at least.
I missed the part where that's my problem.I've been thinking of doing the same thing too as a just-in-case backup if my New 3DS ever bites it. But I also need a new iPod and those are overpriced... Might as well use that stimulus money for something I guess...
My Megaman and MegaTen liveblogsThat's kind of the downside of portables I guess. A traditional home console can last a lot longer since the screen and controls aren't built-in. They aren't moved as much either so they're less likely to be dropped. The Switch is also going to have some of the portable problems, but at least the controllers can be swapped and it can still output to TV even if the screen gets scratched up.

I missed the part where that's my problem.I know this well. I was lucky enough to get a silver Gameboy Advance about a decade ago for next to nothing from a stock clearance to replace my very well played original one.
But though some bad luck while moving furniture it fell out of a desk onto concrete and dinged up the outside and scratched the screen.
At least it still works fine, but I was recently annoyed at past me for not being more careful with it.
"But if that happened, Melia might actually be happy. We can't have that." - Handsome RobGot my OG model 3DS out. Haven't had a charger for it in over a year at least (gave it to a friend since I wasn't using it anyway due to busted shoulder buttons). It's still fully charged, even after playing some eShop games and the Smash Bros demo. I'm impressed.
Also, man, there's just something surreal about playing Smash Bros on a 3DS. I know, the Switch is a portable too, but that's tablet sized at least. Seeing Smash run on a tiny little DS, as someone who grew up with a GBC, is just a crazy experience. Of course, you can tell it's really pushing the OG model to the limit since it has to restart when you close the game, but even so. It's amazing how much technology has advanced over the last couple decades.
I missed the part where that's my problem.
Sorry to change the subject a bit here, but the 3DS for what we got was honestly a pretty good portable console. Later entries in the line obviously dropped the 3D gimmick later on, but I don't blame them since the trend was already on it's way out when the 3DS popped up to begin with. The game selection is honestly surprisingly varied. And when it comes to RP Gs, I'm down for all the stuff we got. Whether it was Pokemon, Dragon Quest, Bravely Default, Fire Emblem, SMT we got a lot to work with here.
Still don't like the motion controls, but it's still pretty alright. Looking to pick up some more Dragonquest ports as well. There's so many more RP Gs to get through.
