Not sure whether I have to start several pages in Russian running, because of the percent gibberish made up in the links as soon as they have a cyrillic symbol in. I am OK with the articles still having English titles, but THIS...

What has happened to the Finnish translation topic? (or have there even been one?) There seems to be promising start of Finnish version, but there's still lot of work to do. I will try and look what I can do to help, but I'm very new here, so I don't dare to mess with things much.

I love to take a bath in a casket.

I'm a little bit curious about naming convention of tropes for scripts that have accents (I'm French). Is it quite necessary to wreck our heads with those weird looking Ptitles or whatever you call those? Can't we just drop the accents and be done with it? Like : "C'est déjà ça" could simply be "C Est Deja Ca" ? Forgive me, I'm sure it's been mentioned somewhere else but for the life of me I can't find it again :-S

It really would be nice if we could have something similar to The Other Wiki with the other languages a trope exists in... somewhere on the page. As it stands right now, every time I want to find the French page for something, well, honestly I can't. I have to search for it every damn time :-S Even the main page! Am I missing something or is it just because the whole internationalisation hasn't been really thought out yet?

Hopefully someone enlighten me :)

The ptitle system is dead (although there are a few corpses still around). Instead, what we should do is indeed create the page without accents, then use the custom title tool to ask for a "pretty" title with accents. The URL will use the "raw" title, but it'll be displayed everywhere as the pretty version.

There used to be a "this page in other languages" system, but it wasn't very easy to use, and I have no clue what happened to it. What I do know is that the links from the main Home Page to the various language subwikis were disabled for performance reasons.

This is good to know, thanks :) I'll have to remember about that for my next translation, if it has accents.

Hi everybody,I've been absent from the site for about a year and now I'm not sure about how to do things anymore, especially since the site seems to have changed quite a bit during the time I was away. So, here's my problem: the Italian page for Tropes Of Legend, Trope Leggendari, is actually a wrong translation, which I'm ashamed about, the right translation is Tropi leggendari. If I remember correctly, to fix this I should: 1)Create a page with the right name (Tropi leggendari); 2) copy the content of the wrong page (Trope Leggendari) and paste it in the right page (Tropi leggendari); 3) add the wrong page to the cut list. Is that right?

Right. You should also check whether there's any discussion to be moved before cutting the page (I just did, there isn't any) and ask a moderator to move it if needed (with the "report" tool in the Tools menu on the left).

Something I noticed and I'm curious about: what's the plan for translating top of the page buttons (such as YMMV, WMG, moments, etc) ? Because for the moment, I'm looking at the French homepage and all those buttons are pointing to their English version (except Discussion which doesn't use the same template at all, so that's alright). Since those buttons don't seem to be editable by us mere peons, I assume there is some sort of request to do? Or has there been no discussion regarding how to organise this?

Hey Tropers, this is one of the greatest Wiki's ever! I think this site deserves way more popularity than it has now. So I was wondering if you guys could see the site stats... how many Dutch people visit this site every day?

Because if it's more well-known than I thought, I can help translating some things to Dutch. However, to be honest, I think it would be a waste of time, as Dutch people who manage to figure out what TV Tropes are about, probably have decent English skills anyway.

If that's the case then I'll still add my two cents by spreading the word around for this site to other Dutch people. :)

Also - the English version of the Wiki looks like it's written by the same guy, every single page. It maintains the same amazing humor and entertaining views on things. The typical writing on this site that I love so much can't be found anywhere else. So either it's just one amazing guy (or girl), or you're ALL top-quality writers - anyway Tropers, keep up the good work! [awesome]

Someone is Cut-Listing Spanish language indices. Apparently not everyone realizes their "Official" status and thinks it is part of some random whim by an individual rogue troper or something.

How about a Dutch one, I read about one in the liveblogs.

Ik dacht aan één die gebruik zal maken van zowel de Duitse als de Brtise als voorbeeld, sinds onze taal daar erg aan verwand is.

Tropes can become Tropen and Trope = Troop.

English/German to Dutch is as easy as Lancastershire-English to Worcestershire-English or High-German to Low-German.

We (the Dutch and Belgian peoples', respectively) have our large media and the Netherlands has its own Hollywood (Hilversum, kind of, no, not really, close enough, most call it Dutch-Hollywood).

You know, that thing where = U weet, die ene waar

I can't think of any more but my IRL friend Apfel Saur 4 started his own liveblog for it, you might want to check that one out.

Ik denk niet dat 'r veel moeite zal zijn in 't toepassen v. vertalingen of orginele Nederlandse-/Surinaamse-/Belgische-tropen op deze site.

I'm an A-student I can found a danish translation if you like.

I see the HCA posts and it needs more than just an edit war to be suitable.

Fast Eddie, I'm interested in an effort to make an Indonesian translation of TV Tropes... For the translation of 'Trope' itself, all we could come up with is "Kiasan". So... "Kiasan TV"?

Is it okay?

Ok, Uh, I'm trying to get the Esperanto translation up and running again, and I'm having an issue where the special characters (ŭ ŝ ĝ ĥ ĵ and ĉ) turn into &#(unicode code point); when they are in links.

TV Tropes does not like Unicode stuff. You can't write such links nowadays.

Here is a copy of the 2016 English home page:

What is this about? This wiki is a catalog of the tricks of the trade for writing fiction.

Tropes are devices and conventions that a writer can reasonably rely on as being present in the audience members' minds and expectations. On the whole, tropes are not clichés. The word clichéd means "stereotyped and trite." In other words, dull and uninteresting. We are not looking for dull and uninteresting entries. We are here to recognize tropes and play with them, not to make fun of them.

The wiki is called "TV Tropes" because TV is where we started. Over the course of a few years, our scope has crept out to include other media. Tropes transcend television. They reflect life. Since a lot of art, especially the popular arts, does its best to reflect life, tropes are likely to show up everywhere.

We are not Wikipedia. We're a buttload more informal. We encourage breezy language and original thought. There Is no Such Thing as Notability, and no citations are needed. If your entry cannot gather any evidence by the Wiki Magic, it will just wither and die. Until then, though, it will be available through the Main Tropes Index.

Click on "Tropers Online" in the menu on the upper right of any page to find the places where the troper community gather to talk about things.

Go on, have fun!
