I honestly didn't care that there was no mother ship fight. I wanted my giant kaiju and walking fortress though. Also aforementioned tunnel levels.

For those who were hoping for a more direct sequel then Insect Armageddon or wish that it was more like 2017, EDF 2025 is coming out This month. We have a thread floating around. Not much activity and mostly filled with media, ad, and game news updates.

So after EDF 2025, EDF 4.1: The Shadow of New Despair, we are getting the latest EDF game, Earth Defense Force 5 in the US by the end of the year.
The new game has assorted improvements including an ability to improve weapons to an extent, equip accessories, blood and injury decals, and more enemy gibs. There are a number of new enemies including replacements for the hectors. Weapons have been tweaked and changed as well as some new effects added.

Here is some gameplay showing improvements made for air raider such as better control of various strikes.

It's the perfect TPS game how could I not. I was just in a EDF related coma because D3 refused to say whether they where localizing this one or not. Now we get to start the wait all over again for Iron Rain hooray.

Yeah sadly Iron Rain won't pop up till next year. But hopefully, that means it will be worth it. So far what have seen shows some promise.
I am stoked for 5 though. The new graphics, enemies, weapons, and changes to the classes looked like a lot of fun in the lets plays I have seen. On the downside it will distract the guys who have made headway in modding 4.1 on PC.

As of the Tokyo Game Show's first day, the release date for the English and most other regional releases for EDF 5 is December 11, 2018. I also saw other mentions that DLC would be available sometime in February or March. For the curious there are English speaking lets plays on youtube playing the Japanese version of the game.

Game's out. Is awesome. Played way too much of it. Up to the new Deroys. Took them way too long to localize.
Like the new quality of life improvements, like increased item range pickup. Ranger's more versatile then ever, can even call down vehicles too now. And the new bike! It's usable!
Kinda iffy about the Wing Diver's new charge-and-release and lowers-power-with-low-clip weapons which seem to seriously handicap them in a lot of situations. They already almost completely lack ranged weaponry people come on.

Shirow: Yeah I have it as well. I am at about Mission 45 right now with Air Raider.
I sort of like the charge weapon mechanic and hate in others. On the full auto weapons, it is actually kind of handy. Once you start blasting away you just basically pray and spray. You can also interrupt the firing on some of them and fire a charge short of full power. There is an upside. Some of the charge weapons start out overpowered at the start of the shot but drop off. Namely some of the lasers.
Air raider has been turned into a one-man devastator.

We should play a couple missions together.
The charge'n'fire does have a use or two, the rapid-fire type kind of does work with the Wing Diver's hit-and-run tactics. Charge a full dose, wait for your energy to reload, then fly in and unleash hell for a solid couple of second without worrying about your energy. Fly out and repeat. Cleared plenty of bug nests with the 3-way shot.
But even if it leads to more energy efficiency I'd prefer a simple reload-type with a lower mag count like eighty percent of the time. The one weapon that does a simple reload without the Destroyer Blaster-type energy dropoff I've found, the Spark Vine-Spark Whip line, are absolute mainstays of my arsenal because of it.
Air Raiders do seem to be unstoppable. Just one can cause bullets and fire to rain down on the Primers continuously and constantly it's great.

When I renew my online sub for PS I might take you up on that offer.
Air Raider is pure evil if they don't have to sacrifice their gunship strikes. Though the reloading cruise missiles are nice. The homing roller bombs are kind of fun to.
The Rangers minion buster is my new favorite plus their new laser-guided rocket.
Fencer didn't change that much compared to the others.

Fencers lost their shield dash cancel. That's a big one.
On the other hand, they can now multi-dash with upgrades and keep their momentum during a upward thruster so their mobility hasn't been hurt too bad, they just need different tools to do it. I still really like how EDF made what looks like the Mighty Glacier the Difficult, but Awesome class.

They may have lost the shield cancel but instead gained a huge amount of mobility with the right equipment and weapons. Somewhere there are a few videos of Fencers basically flying around the map and they are pretty fast. I played my 4.1 Fencer as a long range gun platform with at least one close in self-defense weapon usually one of the spear weapons for dash mobility so I don't really miss it that much. I made the enemy come to me as much as possible and basically kept up the withering fire until they got close. The cave levels sucked on Inferno though. Especially the DLC Mutant missions.
The new Air Raider dropping giant flying enemies feels like that scene from the anime GATE where they kill the two young dragons. I just kept pasting the Queen with Gunship and Fighter Bomber beacon strikes by tier. Auto-Cannons, then rockets, then 180mm, followed by a strafe plan. Wash rinse, and repeat the first three.

Ahh. They are considering things to do for DLC it looks like it will sell well enough for them to include some.
Man trooper armor is a bitch to play in. I die so easily. But I need to find that last bit then i will have all armors up to tier 7. After that it is all grind to Tier 8 and getting my pesticide weapons.
