So, as we know, her third upcoming album has a title now. But I wonder what it'll sound like. The big rumors right now seem to be that It'll have more political content and Gaga will be going back to her rock 'n roll roots. Both sound potentially quite awesome. Anyone who has ever looked up "gaga bliix metal remix" on Youtube is aware that Gaga songs work just as well as rock/heavy metal as they do as dance songs. This isn't surprising given that Stephanie Germanotti was originally a Rock and Jazz musician and has said that she and Red One always conceive the songs as rock songs first and then rearrange them as dance numbers later. Gaga has also been increasingly taking to performing rock renditions of some of her songs in live performances. In particular, Money Honey which is normally a filler song I skip past in "The Fame" takes a turn for the awesome when you hear it live in Monster Ball as a rock song: [[youtube:JI1tVuur4_Q]] (Yes, that is Catgirl!Gaga in the background. Told you I wasn't making it up) So I wonder how the next album is going to sound. Is it going to be fully rock? Are some tracks going to be rock songs and others dance songs? Or is there going to be a delicious blend of The Power Of Rock and Synthesizeritis. Considering that some of my favourite bands are ones that blend guitars and synths like Rammstein and Ladytron, I'm really hoping Gaga will Take A Third Option. The potential political content should be interesting, too. Lady Gaga's video addressed to John Mc Cain asking him to abandon his filibuster of the repeal of DADT was impressive. She Showed Her Work by addressing him in language a conservative could understand - emphasising the dedication that gay soldiers had towards their country and the military rather then getting self righteous and sanctimonious. It showed a maturity that celebrities twice her age lack when discussing politics. If she showed a similar maturity in lyrics, Born This Way could end up being one of the most powerful set of political anthems in decades. That you can dance/headbang to!
