^^ They say her whole persona of a grotesque pop star parody is the same thing Madonna did. I haven't heard any Madonna songs, so I wouldn't know.

"Wax on, wax off..." "But Mr. Miyagi, I don't see how this is helping me do Karate..." "Pubic hair is weakness, Daniel-san!"

I'll admit, I really only got into her music last year. At first I only knew the name, then I heard one of her songs during an Olympic skating event (though I can't recall which song it was now). Wasn't all that impressed, but then they also started playing this sample of Paparazzi during the commercials for a dog show. I didn't care for the lyrics (though I realize the creepiness is intentional), but thought the melody was pretty.

It wasn't until the Glee episode that I heard one of her songs in full, and thought both sounded good. Then I heard the originals, and some of the others, and I have to say I like a good portion of them now. This new one really catchy, and I can't wait to hear the finished version of You and I.

I listened to Born This Way a few times to digest it, and to be honest, I don't feel like it has lived up to the hype behind it. Sure, its okay, but it doesn't feel particularly Gaga-esque, especially in the lyrics. The lyrics of some of her previous songs were fairly complex and had multiple layers of meaning to them (which is one of the reasons I cite Alejandro, Dance in the Dark, Telephone, Love Game, and Bad Romance as her best in my opinion). BTW feels so... flat. Plus, she's gonna have some angry people banging on her door. Gaga dear, did you know that "Orient" is a pretty offensive and outdated term?

I really, really hope that her full album released this year will be more of what has made Gaga so unique and fun to listen to. I heard "You and I" at her concert, and it was great. Maybe that new album will still have that classic Gaga flavor with a few new things. Maybe not. Only time will tell.

Song makes me cringe, but at the same time I like it and think it's a nice gesture.

I love Lady Gaga. And, while I think that some of the lyrics in Born This Way are a bit cliched, I think it's an awesome song, and though it sounds like Madonna, I can't name any particular song it sounds like.

I always found her music a tad slow, but that isn't anything I can't fix w/ music editing software. >:3

As some queer blogger said; "Bad Romance" became a gay anthem organically. "Born This Way" sets out to become one. It doesn't work that way.

Also, it's not nearly weird enough. But my boyfriend likes it.

I might like Born This Way if it didn't sound so artificial and also if it wasn't the same song as Express Yourself. At least it was a nice thought.

Yeah, I was also sort of ambivalent to Born This Way when I first heard it. It's a good song, don't get me wrong, but it's missing that Gaga spark, I dunno. It's like as if she was singing someone elses song instead of something she wrote herself, you know what I mean?

In fact, the single kinda made me lose all my hopes of a truly epic album.

But then I heard this:

it's a remix of an album song used for some fashion show or other, and apparently it doesn't even contain the chorus of the original if the comment box beneath the video is to be believed.

i don't know about you, but i think that even the remix version sounds awesome, and i usually don't even like remixes. and considering that Gaga has said that Born This Way is the odd one out in her new album, it kind of makes me be excited again. but i guess we won't know until may. or if someone leaks the songs sometime soon.

The video has been released. I love it.

Also, I thought the downward pointing triangle that appeared at the beginning of the video pointing upright at the end was nice subtle touch. The whole accepting vs. hatred aspect of the video was nicely framed by the downward-pointing triangle, which was symbol of shame placed upon gays by the Nazis, becoming upright at the end - a symbol of gays rights and acceptance.

I love Gaga. There's been very few pop stars of this level and fame who have been this outspoken and in favor of gay people. grin

I don't like the new stuff to be honest thematically it's good but it lacks the energy or something of her previous stuff and I can see why people compare it to express yourself plus I didn't need the intro it's a bit too long

anyway I'll probably grow to like it, I didn't like Arcade Fire's The Suburbs when I first heard it it took a while to grow on me

I've only seen it once, but the beginning part confused me. Lady Gaga was born to be the savior of the world but split herself into a good and evil half or something? It sounded like the prologue to a science fiction novel or something. I'm hoping it comes into play in more of her future music videos.

The parts with the actual music on the other hand were nice. Good visuals, Zombie Gaga was creepy but that's what she goes for, nice overall.

Telephone is still my favorite of her music videos though.

This might be my new favorite Gaga video. It's like some disturbing sci-fi movie with a giant orgy at the end. It's disturbing and awesome all at once.

Well, I found the single to be a massive disappointment. It's like the producer thought "Oh fuck melody and harmony, I'll just throw a bunch of noise into the mix".

The thing is, it's the same producer from "Dance In The Dark" which was a great song.

I just hope the rest of the album is better. If not, I'm already working on commissioning a picture of Lady Gaga jumping over a shark tank on a motorcycle.

Huh, that's what I liked best about this song: the fact that it wasn't as "pop" sounding as most other pop artists.

Edit: By the way let this go on record for all time and be quoted against me in a court of elitist musical law. xerxyxl or whatever the fuck his name is defended a Lady Gaga song.

[up] I see no problem there. I like a few of Katy Perry's songs ("Thinking of You" and "You're So Gay" are awesome. Don't deny it.) but I also love Mc Frontalot and Mumford & Sons (though the latter is becoming mainstream. I'm proud of their success.)

[up] I honestly don't know what he'd be able to point out about the video that he hasn't pointed out already in Alejandro and Telephone. His freaking out about Lady Gaga is hilarious, but I think he's milked those jokes.

I've been getting used to Lady Gaga, but this video freaked me out (it actually made me laugh from crossing the line maybe four times in terms of over-the-top bizzarity). To be honest, I think that this video actually CONFIRMS everything TITS has been WMGing about Lady Gaga.

At first I didn't realize I needed all this stuff...
