Nope. Shadow Boxing is not a trope at the moment and it's a great pun.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickWell someone who Shadow Boxes trying to show off, look threatning ect IMO is a trope I would YKTTW it if I could. (computer cought fire eariler today and my phone can't load YKTTW page since its so large.)
Sparkling and glittering! Jan-Ken-Pon!I have never heard it to mean that. Literal shadow boxing is just fighting with your own shadow. It's how boxers train and it isn't really a trope. What you're talking about is a trope, but it's not shadow boxing.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickThere are so many good names here. Why not put up a crowner for it?
The Crystal Caverns A bird's gotta sing.I don't like it. "Shadow boxing" already has a figurative meaning...Shadow Boxing is when you are fighting against some perceived personal failing, typically used to indicate that you are wasting your energy focusing inwards.
oh shit, I think that figurative meaning is closer to another trope.
Sometimes in works people do fight against personifications of their own failings (like when you have Enemy Without but in a dreamscape) or dark secrets.
'Even ignoring that, it is a phrase associated with you fighting the shadow, not you fighting using shadows.
- to make the motions of attack and defense, as in boxing, as a training or conditioning procedure.
- to evade or avoid direct or decisive action.
I don't think either can be used for another trope, so Shadow Boxing would be great as the "using shadows as weapons" trope.

I managed to find this
.
There's a difference between not meaning exactly what the trope is and meaning something that leads you away from the trope. It's a counter-intuitive name. "Shadow Boxing" will make people think of somebody fighting shadows. Is it another trope? It doesn't have to be for it to screw up the name.
There's no actual parallel between real life shadow boxing and this trope. Contrast it with the psychological use I mentioned which does.
All the elemental powers have Punny Names that are usually associated with something else entirely. Playing with Fire doesn't sound like it's about fighting with fire powers. Shock and Awe doesn't sound like it's about fighting with electric powers.
Shadow Boxing, while not perfect (
point about it sounding like fighting against the shadows) is about on the same level as any of them.
Why doesn't this topic have a crowner yet? There are so many good names with nothing wrong with them. I think the only way we're going to resolve this is by vote.
The Crystal Caverns A bird's gotta sing. How about Pitching Black? It's a pun and works in the "wielding darkness" angle.
The only other one I got is Shooting Darks, which doesn't sound as good (and might be mistaken for racist).

I don;t know how to format crowners so could someone please put on up?
The Crystal Caverns A bird's gotta sing.FOR THE LAST TIME THIS TOPIC ISN"T GOING TO GET ANYWHERE UNTIL SOMEONE PUTS UP A CROWNER.
The Crystal Caverns A bird's gotta sing.I wish I could cast two down votes for Its Always Darkest Before The Pwn. I hate it when people pronounce that "pawn". It's a typo of "own".

Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan.

I would of prefered a crowner before messing with the page (everyone was still on the rename stage not splitting)... anyway we will still need a supertrope to both to put on the Elemental Powers page since only one gets listed.
EDIT: NVM seems someone edited all the sub-tropes and listed them as Main Pages.
