Nope.
From house to house I go,
A messenger small and slight.
And whether it rains or snows,
I always sleep outside at night.
What am I?
They've no fur or claws;
That much is untrue.
And once you've lost them,
They've also lost you.
Note, the first one is taken directly from a book, and I didn't get it either before reading the answer (The "messenger" part is pretty much a red herring; it doesn't make any sense. It sure as hell isn't small, either).
The second one, I just thought up on my own. The first two lines (Well, really just the first line) are supposed to lead you to a related word that is nevertheless not the answer. Maybe I should try to make each line a syllable or two longer, so I can make it clearer. :/

ERROR: The current state of the world is unacceptable. Save anyway? YES/NOIn Soviet Russia, bearings lose you?
ERROR: The current state of the world is unacceptable. Save anyway? YES/NOWell, I am using a definition of the word that is of... dubious validity. :/ I thought perhaps I could use lose to mean "cause to become lost."
I'mma check the Dictionary app, at any rate.
EDIT: Also, yeah, it is bearings.
EDIT 2: ![]()
They do have bears in Russia, as well, so there's that. :|

@Bisected: A couple months back, my first post of the day for an entire week was always a Hobbit reference and no one ever got it. I was very sad.
@Knowless: I want to say "marbles," but I know that's not right.
So I'm gonna say "pause."
