The graphics has this "old style" feel to it....
...a little brother should belong to his older sister, right? - Orimura ChifuyuThat said, we can use break off the moeblob animes we're seeing nowadays. We need more serious stories but still borders between Darker and Edgier and Hilarity Ensues.

I didn't really expect that kind of voice for Urabe, but I guess it fits her nonetheless. Her laugh was perfect though.
Watching the first episode reminded me of why I started reading the manga, I miss those weird dream sequences. :( Also, with the manga not having made any real progress lately, I totally forgot about that "voice" (was it ever explained who/what it was anyway ?) telling her Tsubaki would be her first partner. Guess the mangaka himself lost track of a few points in his work...
There's dream sequences? Yes!!!!
Are you guys watching it from a particular sub group, or did you just watch a stream?
*Watches first episode*
...
If I just watched this I would assume Urabe was on drugs.
*Continues watching*
Or maybe that the show was made on drugs.
I hope you were watching that Panty Shot closely everyone... It's actually relevant. Though they do just give the game away in the preview anyway.
I think I'll keep watching this.

I must humbly apologise to Hoods Entertainment. I was expecting trash like, well, most of everything else they've done, but the first episode was wonderful. I don't expect that level of animation to keep going, but for at least one shining moment, there was beauty.
As for Mikoto's VA, I think she nailed the low end, but fizzled a bit on the high end. I liked the tone and pitch a lot, but I think she needs some time to inhabit the character. Since this isn't going to be a long running show, she might not make it, but I'll say she's at least acceptable.
Tsubaki's VA isn't outstanding in any direction, which I suppose is fitting for an 'average' like Tsubaki.
I'm keen to hear Oka.

Creed of the Happy Pessimist:Always expect the worst. Then, when it happens, it was only what you expected. All else is a happy surprise.Despite the minor changes, I thought this was a delightful start to the adaptation. While I do still think that a 'Misaki Mei'-ish voice would suit her better, the performance of Mikoto's VA is growing on me. It's just so un-anime (not very surprising given the VA's live-action background), it's refreshing in a way.
Gotta love the visceral "Oh God, ewww" kneejerk reactions some people are getting from it though.
So weird. Just like Mysterious Girlfriend X should be.
And indeed, this is an anime of another time and it truly seems to be embracing that. And yes, Urabe's VA was very weird when I first heard her, but on the episode itself she just... fit. Though still, there's something kind of different about her voice... She has a Live Action VA I heard?

He's got a decent range if he can play both Kenji Kido and Origami Cyclone. I think that part will be all right.
