There is an incredibly healthy and visible thread for Bob's non-GO stuff.

Anyone know when the next episode is going to be up or what it is going to be about? I haven't seen anything about it at all.

The next episode is up for Screwattack Advantage members. Not sure when it will be up for everyone, but it should be soon.

He says it'll be up in a week that's good I'm interested in seeing a "why we love games" retrospective and talk about things that genuinely unite us instead of him trying to brag about how Nintendo won this generation of the console wars, (which he very hypocritically participates in despite the fact that he calls it childish) it'll be nice to see something heartwarming and thought-provoking come from Bob after the recent episodes.

I think the last few were too short and didn't have points rebutting him.I agreed with most of them but I really think if he got them longer and put more arguments against his view in he could definitely strengthen his point and make the episodes better. A few too many like Rose Colored Memory seemed to end before they began.

I generally like Bob. I also disagree with him quite fiercely on some subjects. But I do feel the need to point out that he isn't nearly as hypocritical as people claim. 99% of the time, he feels differently about two similar things (stagnation in the video game scene, for example), therefore he pisses some people off, therefore he's a hypocrite. But that's not a real example of hypocrisy, people. He isn't two-faced. And I don't think it matters to him that Nintendo is winning the console wars, except on the grounds that it means the company isn't going under or going third-party like we thought at the end of the Game Cube years. He will always feel that Nintendo is superior (as I do). But that doesn't mean he secretly thinks the ridiculous fanboy slapfights that happen because of that opinion and other, similar opinions are a good thing.

@EVJ: Could you offer me an example of what his differing opinions are in the stagnation of videogames? Was there supposed to be counter example, or did he do a episode on that besides the Madden+Retrogames episode? Cause I honestly don't understand your example sorry.

New episode is up: http://gameoverthinker.blogspot.com/2012/02/episode-66-why-do-you-love-video-games.html#more

Quiet a few people have complained about Screwattacks video player. You think he should also post it too blip and post the blip video to his blog as well? I know he gets money from Screw Attack but a lot of people think Screw Attack needs to play videos better and he still is part of Advantage.

No, actually it is pretty important to him. Just watch "The Emperor has No Clothes". His conclusion about Sony is that and I quote "they got lucky!"

New episode is up for everyone!

I have to say, I really am loving Ivan's role as the storyline's resident Meta Guy.

EDIT: Finished watching the episode. Basically, he's arguing that zombies are popular in video games because of the catharsis of killing masses of other people, without the discomfort of knowing that you're killing, well, actual people. I had this very same realization a while ago, it really shows just how ugly human psychology can be.

Also, the most interesting thing for me was the end, where the Overthinker has to, quite reluctantly, save the Call of Duty franchise. Maybe the next episode will be one where he addresses his own personal bias?

It does sound good and the storyline is probably funny, I'll have to wait and see. Anyone here have any problem with Screwattack's video player?

Alright, I watched it. Gotta say the opening was the first I was legitamatly impressed with in a while. But I still have the same complaint that nowhere in the video did he offer up a possible counter to his final "Hard Truth" comment and than say "yeah maybe but I don't think so". Like maybe offer instead that Zombies could instead represent something like the scariest part of the mob mentality instead of our anger at humans and than say "I can see where there coming from but I think that only applied to the Dawn Of the Dead Zombies."

Basically I think it would add a lot to the videos if he defended his position more. It needs to be a little longer to help bring up a discussion instead of making it seem like he only wants to get across his opinion. I get that he likes to go in depth which is why I want him too go even further. I know he has other things to do but he has had longer episodes. The next one does look good and I will continue to watch to see if he examines his personal biases more and see how the overthinker goes about bringing the discussion of Nostalgia.

They way he talks down to his audience and angrily lectures in his "I'm so high and mighty way" has pissed me off long enough and become a problem so often that I considered stop watching him. He did it again, ergo: I stopped watching him.

[up]I don't really see the problem with "talking down" in this case. The people he's addressing here deserve to be talked down to.

Hell, have you heard what some of these people have done? Petitioning Bioware to change the ending is obnoxiously entitled enough, but then someone filed a complaint to the FTC over it. Someone is trying to get the Federal Trade Commission involved over a video game ending.

These are the people he's addressing here, and to be perfectly honest, I feel absolutely no sympathy for them.

[up]See this, is what I'm talking about. I know that he was mostly talking about the people petitioning about it but he talks to them like there all like that. It is fine if Bioware changes the ending if they want to, it is fine if they don't. Whether he likes it or not most agree that the guys trying to sue or sending death threats our out of line. Most of them are just complaining, (admittedly being whiny about it) and saying that the ending should be changed. No different from the way a test audience can have an affect on it, (though if you want to argue that it is different because it is a completed work of art that is fine but I don't really think games should ever be completed and put away the same way other mediums are) But no: they are ALL ridiculous Strawmen.

[up]I'd suggest just reading the comment section of his blog posts for his videos. That's usually where the actual intelligent discussion goes on.

@NUL Lc Hi LD 27,: Thanks, I've been reading it for a while and saw some good rebuttals there. I've been writing for a while I think he should give his opposing viewpoints more airtime on his show, (and not condescendingly like today) but he doesn't seem to want to do that or not talk down to his audience. I've looked in the comments today and may do it sometime in the future.

I think I'd rather not give him the page-views though. Extra Credits does what he is trying to do so much better and doesn't call people who disagree with them Entitled or Douche bags or whatever. I'm not being or "Hater" or whatever, I've held this opinion for a while and he wasn't always acted like this. It just got to be a constant thing for him. Guess he thinks he is preaching to the choir. Who knows, he just might be now.

You know, I find it funny that people are so quick to attack Bob over the latest GO for making the exact same argument that quite a few other critics have made without drawing so much hate.
