So I just watched it. I personally actually liked it? Something bittersweet and dark about the episode which I did not expect at all.

It's clear it's the squid game aspect was just a window dressing and it's more about how Fry's past trauma. I thought it was actually fresh here since rather than the usual positive swing on a negative one, this is actually something negative that happened to him despite the well-meaning mom.

Fry has never mentioned his grandmother before...

Yeah I thought it was just him doing a random line nothing meant to be taken seriously.

EDIT: Didn't realize the kid with glasses was from a CC episode (Cold Warriors). It does explain why they're enemies there.

lol (out of character)

Ok...I feel I should re-clarify, outside of the repeated references to the one episode and the episode itself (Roswell that ends well), Fry himself has never made any referential "anecdotes" about his grandmother.

I wonder if the "my grandmother's in hell" comment was Fry talking about his maternal grandmother and not Mildred?

It's a weird non-sequitor in any case.

That'd be something...

Since we've just seen Bender's extended family from his mom's side, so why not in this case?

It's an odd choice that he's his paternal grandfather when it's his mom that looks a lot more like him than his dad/son does. If Fry was his maternal grandfather it would've solved the issue of where his Y chromosome comes from and avoided potentially contradicting Yancy Sr's statement about his name

The reason I brought up Mildred is that while she obviously couldn't know who her baby daddy is if she lived long enough for Fry to grow up it might be awkward that he "looks" just like the guy she had a one night stand with after her fiancé died rather than said fiancé

How about today’s episode? I thought it was alright, if not a little meanspitited.

I thought was a definite step up - good jokes throughout, and just the right level of mean spirited I've come to expect from Futurama.

I thought bringing back Josh Gedgie last week was a deep cut callback, but they topped themselves here, bringing back that one temp character from way back in the Fox years. I'd totally forgotten that guy existed!

I'd entirely forgotten the show was airing until i saw these posts.

Yeah that more fine than previous weeks. The wedding was rather cliché but the rest of it was pretty good.

And confirmed Fry and Leela relationship.

You know what was weird about this episode? They actually completed a delivery without issue! Like how often do they do succeed at that?

This episode was surprisingly good. Best episode of the Hulu run so far, and honestly better than some of the Comedy Central episodes.

I do agree the wedding part of the ep took longer than it needed.

Hmm, they look pretty good for being 23 years older. Here I was thinking The Simpsons didn't age.

Time both has passed and hasn't because of breaking the button as per the first hulu episode.

There's still the initial 13 years before "Meanwhile", though I guess that maybe the Fountain of Aging missed a few yearsnote  Fry looked the same three years before the pilot.

Honestly I don't know why they bothered to skip a decade outside of an excuse to cover Amy and Kif's kids. Was making it 1000 years exactly so important? In the original run it was actually off a year. Who cares if it's only set 990 years into the future

Just watched the latest ep, "The Beauty and the Bug", and I think it's the best episode of the Hulurama revival yet! It's not that the story does anything special, but all the jokes are just on point.

Eh. A Bender episode. 2nd in four episodes though I don't remember any last season, so maybe they held off due to the uncertainty about John DiMaggio

Also Mars/Buggalo are a Spain/Bulls parallel now?

I did like the scene between Bender and Amy before the buggalo pile. The niceness reminded me that they were a couple at one point.

Bender had 2 episodes in the previous season...

1 paired with Zoidberg and the 2nd was the season finale.

[up] Do you just wait until I post to contradict me?

That's fair though I'd completely forgotten both those episodes. I'll blame them for being bad rather than my terrible memory though.
