Huh, guess I'm not the only one who didn't catch the Evangelion reference.
So from this episode I can tell that Nise will be slower-paced than Bake, but I'm fine with it if we get dialogue like that. This is my type of slice-of-life.
And I finally get to see Koyomi's sisters! He really does only have crazy girls in his life. Cute crazy girls... lucky(?) guy.
Oh I missed this show so much.

While I do agree that the 1st episode was low paced a fair amount of things happened such as Araragi being kidnapped... so I dont think we are heading towards slice of life territory. We also got introduced to one of the sisters (what was hes name) their relationship, and the conversation with Hachikuji was partly about wether he should tell his sisters he is a vampire or not. Add to that the director of Sayonara Zetsubou sensei and you might get the impression of wonderful senslessness.
I do hope Nisemono starts to gravitate more towards the sister. The character seem intriguing and I always wanted to see more of them in Bakemono... the promos havent helped either... when is the next episode coming out?

I will always cherish the chance of a new beggining.
I didn't mean that the show was becoming slice-of-life, just that I would like it if slice-of-life shows had discussions somewhat like Mayoi's conversation with Koyomi. Something like Denpa Onna To Seishun Otoko.
Nise being available has reminded me that I haven't seen the ON As of Bake. What are folks' opinions on the best subbing group for them? As it's a dialogue-driven series, I was taking no chances with subbers, so I thought I would ask some tropers.
If it makes any difference I watched Bake with subs by GG, and will probably be hitting UTW's subs for Nise.
UTW is only releasing the BDs now, so they are not an option for a while.
I am eager to hear that as well. I was originally going for Horrible Subs, since I've heard Crunchyroll's subs are good. However, they do not translating the split second text monologue, which I like to read myself. Any other suggestions?
That kind of timing and such takes FOREVER to get right and placed right... Probably going to have to wait for the BD.

Commie translated it for the first episode. They excluded the original text in the process, which I believe it is the best way to handle to positioning (in the Bakemonogatari subs I've seem, the translation was between the original lines, which was a pain to read). But I don't know how accurate their translation is, so I am asking for suggestions.
Ehh?
I got the Evangelion reference right away.
It's in the 5th or 6th episode. Shinji and Rei are about to go fight the third Angel that almost killed Shinji a few hours earlier.
Rei turns around with this huge moon behind her and promises Shinji that he will not die because she will protect him.
It's one of the more famous scenes in the show.

"I will protect you" is a trope on its own. Now you mentioned, I remember the scene well, but it is not an particularly obvious reference. Specially because Senjogahara says with a different meaning (although this is clearly the intention).

But instead of saying "Zettai ni mamoru" she says "watashi wa mamouru kara".
But I got to say I dont remember Rei saying that AT ALL. Me and my feble memory :(
Also. anyone knows when the next episode is coming out?? In the webpage it said something about the 14th of january but I wasnt sure what it was about...

Dang, I've really missed Sawashiro Miyuki's voicework.
I don't particularly like this OP and ED as much as the first season ones, although they're not bad by any means.
Tumblr here. After watching second episode, I should say something witty about its awesomnes, but it not comming. So it is up to you guys.
I liked triple Idiot Hair it seems to be hereditary.
Glad they kept the narrated introduction to his sisters. In the novel they had that before anything else happened so I was afraid they'd cut it out entirely. Of course, that's basically the entirety of what I've read from them.
Yet another "build-up" episode although the hints regarding what's going on are becoming more clear. Seems likely that Karen's adventure isn't going to end quite as smoothly as she predicts.

There wasn't even an ending yet which is funny.
