Quickie Questions

Go To

This thread is for quick questions. A "quick question" is a question which has a relatively quick, generally factual answer; a question which is not likely to inspire an extended discussion.

e.g.

Quick Question: How tall is an average ten-year-old boy?
Not a Quick Question: Why are Americans obsessed with guns?

Quick Question: Why is ALS sometimes called Lou Gehrig's Disease? Who was Lou Gehrig?
Not a Quick Question: In Alan Dean Foster's Thranx Commonwealth series, is Pip a Mary Sue?

Get the idea?

Because people don't like hearing what people who don't like the thing in question think.

I thought it was, "If you have nothing nice to say, then don't say anything at all," and that it only applied to talking about other people.

Does GCC translate into assembly and then call the assembler separately, or go straight into machine code?

I'm not quite sure what you mean when you say that Java has permanently died. Either way, I don't know of any programs that can act as a replacement. Sorry...sad

@Tzetze: This document, documenting the passes of the GCC compiler as of 4.4.1, seems to imply assembly language output which would then need to be assembled.

However, I'm pretty sure there are verbose options to GCC that will have it describe exactly what it's doing, for more accurate answers.

A brighter future for a darker age.
