Quickie Questions

Go To

This thread is for quick questions. A "quick question" is a question which has a relatively quick, generally factual answer; a question which is not likely to inspire an extended discussion.

e.g.

Quick Question: How tall is an average ten-year-old boy?
Not a Quick Question: Why are Americans obsessed with guns?

Quick Question: Why is ALS sometimes called Lou Gehrig's Disease? Who was Lou Gehrig?
Not a Quick Question: In Alan Dean Foster's Thranx Commonwealth series, is Pip a Mary Sue?

Get the idea?

Why is it that sometimes, when I close my eyes, I can see small simple shapes of various colors?

If people learned from their mistakes, there wouldn't be this thing called bad habits.

They're a work of fiction, right?

Why is it that having too many sockpuppets gets you automatically banned? In my mind, it'd be better if the system sent you a message first, giving you a warning to delete your extra sockpuppets or else you'll get banned.

v - I'd rather take it up here first in case the question's been answered before.

^ It might be more effective to raise this point in Wiki Talk. FWIW, though, I agree with you.

I support a system that would warn the user and give them a heads-up time before they get zapped. Say, "You have over ten accounts; all your accounts will be deleted in 72 hours (3 days) unless you delete some of them to have fewer than ten. Here is a link to deleting them." Something like that.

It's a trapdoor ban. IF you are going to make that many accounts you should know stuff about the site beforehand.

Like, it punishes you for not knowing the rules on sockpuppeting like the rest of the world.

Besides, if you're the sort of person who goes around with ten sockpuppets, you would not be a wanted element on this website anyway.

Silly boy

Also, anyone know if Lux Aeterna is overplayed and a no-longer-dramatic soundtrack, or was it featured in major works very few times?

Do you mean the one in Requiem For A Dream? 'cos that's a traditional name for a piece of music, meaning there are at least a dozen pieces by that name.

Nope, sorry, it's still too overused.

It's in fact so overused that you can't even use it to make a joke about how often it's overused.

I've heard that males tend to have a higher chance of being born with color blindness. Is that true?

Apparently so. It runs in my family although I don't have it.

Sez The Other Wiki, which cannot be wrong:

About 8 percent of males, but only 0.5 percent of females, are color blind in some way or another

Yes, because the recessive genetic defect is on the X chromosome. Since males only have one, they can't have the dominant non-defect allele on their other.

Looks like it: The genes that induce colorblindness can be found in the X-chromosome, so if all your X-chromosomes have it (twice as unlikely for women, having two X-chromosomes), you're colorblind.

If I made a sockpuppet named Fukn, would I get in trouble? What about Fuh Ken or Fukken or Fuqken?

Why do people say «If you don't like it/dislike it, then don't say anything at all» ?

If I do not care for subject X, why should I not make my opinion known? Why be quiet? What allows you to gush about it but I should be quiet?
